View Full Version : Other Airlines - TCD Price Comparison

Hi all

We have always travelled with TCD because, being a family of 6, we haven't been able to afford the prices that Virgin and BA charge. Are there other airlines that are similar in price to TCD, but who come recommended in terms of customer service, etc??

Much appreciated.

We can't afford Virgin either :(

We flew with MyTravel last year who are cheaper. I found them good, nothing went wrong with them. In fact when our flight was cancelled due to hurricane frances last year they upgraded us from holiday inn on international drive to pop century at disney for no extra cost!

Other than that if you do searches on the internet you'll find cheaper flights and some good offers. We got flights this year for the end of October for £360 with American Airlines. Not as cheap as last year but we went in September last year and October is more expensive.

First Choice seems to be getting quite popular. Particularly with having the new planes.I'm waiting to hear reports from those who have travelled on the new service. But I think alot of their flights for school hols next year are already sold out.

Sign up with Virgin to get their offers e/mailed to you......our trip in October was booked when they offered child prices for teens which was quite a saving for us. They also regularly offer 15% off on Bank Hols ( when booked on-line).

Our flights with My Travel on Thurs were £350 each when we booked in Jan, i checked their website last night and they're only £171!! next time think we'll risk it and leave it til the last min!! i'll let you know what the service is like when i get back!!

i have got virgin flights cheaper than tcd, they could not give me a better quote for a flight, villa and van than i can get on my own, you dont have to book direct with virgin to fly with them :D

as per mr nutty.....

For one of our trips I phoned tcd who treated me pretty badly on the phone but that aside, gave me a price that was actually HIGHER than simply booking on the virgin website!

I checked round after that and virgin were actually lower than anyone other than one of the american airlines which was £50 total cheaper but didn't fly direct.

It does take some routing around, it also takes a bit of flexibility in terms of dates (1 day later knocked £250 off virgin flights for september) but you can get good deals with decent airlines if you try.

our last trip by moving our trip forward one week we saved, nearly £100 per seat so nearly £600 for the party :D by no means are virgin the dearest, you just have to make some calls :D

I've never had a cheaper quote from TCD than going direct with Virgin and that's without using my Virgin miles.

Personally i will never go on holiday with a tour operator but book myself, if that means i have to wait a bit longer than so be it. but i do find that doing it myself is cheaper.

they quoted me a good few hundred £ more than a semi DIY :(

from all the stuff heard on here recently i would rather pay more than have the start of my hold ruined, but as it is virgin can and are cheaper :)

I hope so....but can I stand to wait? I am pretty confident flights will still be available but I just don't know, what would you do?

We booked with Virgin this year when they had an offer of kids travel for 149.00. Also if you are a frequent virgin flyer you get 10% discount and a free car upgrade. They also offer 10% off disney tickets although they can be found a lot cheaper elsewhere.
You also get nearly double the luggage allowance with virgin.
I had a quote for the same holiday with TCD and it was about 200.00 more

Also if you are a frequent virgin flyer you get 10% discount

Can that be done with flight only, or is it just on Virgin Holidays packages?

I think it's just the holiday package. The discount is given by virgin holidays rather than virgin atlantic

If you book with VH, you enter your FC number and they will amend your invoice to include a 10% discount.

We were very limited to the Oct half term and didn't get exactly what we wanted (flying from Gatwick rather than Manchester and only wanting 10 days as DS is in yr 11) but October is such a short holiday, we knew it would be tight. And I did dither quite a bit.......

I think August is a completely different ball-game and cant see you having a problem when you have 6 weeks to choose from. We were limited also because the teens-for-child prices were only for select dates.
So, overall, I think you stand a good chance of getting something that suits you.:)

Yes we considered that. We are going for three weeks and only want a car for that middle week, does anyone know if you can do this and pick the car up somewhere other than the airport?

Perhaps we won't do that then......we are staying on site, so would be a bit of a pain to get there.

PaulaK

Vikki, we don't take the car even when we book a flydrive with VH. It's not like it really is free. ;) We just arrange our own through airline network, it's often cheaper than paying the insurance on your 'free car'. that way you could pick up from Alamo/National at the Swan/Dolphin.

Vikki
August 31st, 2005, 17:03
I didn't realise you didn't have to take the car.....I kinda assume you had to since it was a flydrive :D

PaulaK
August 31st, 2005, 17:06
When it asks on the booking form how long you want the car, we just leave it all set at 7 days, don't add any insurance so we don't get charged, take the car it allocates us so no premiums are added on and then we just walk past the desk and don't bother collecting it. :)

We've done the same with Virgin this year :D we're just arranging seperate car-hire with Airline Network - who have now added another Dollar pick-up point here:

It's in between DTD and the Crossroads shopping area. Maybe SorcererMickey has one of his cool maps to show you better.

where do you want to walk to/ from Vikki ? from DTD to the car hire ? you can get a bus to DTD from disney hotels then its 5/10 mins walk to the grosvenor and it's quite safe. there is a decent footpath :)

Thats just what I was after. We were going to get it from Alamo at the Dolphin, but if we can get it better with the FVC discount from there that'll do me :) I didn't realise it was so close to DTD, that's idea.....just need one of JMs maps now :)
