View Full Version : O'Hana changes

Well we did go to O'Hana last week.

The green beans are gone and replaced by mixed veggies. They were carrots, pea pods and the like. I didn't try them.

The rice is gone and replaced by scalloped potatoes. May not be a Polynesian type food but they were GOOD.

One of the chefs came around and asked how we liked things. Tried to get info out of him regarding anymore changes and he was pretty vague

BTW, the virgin mixed drinks are included in the dining plan. And no, an extra dessert is not included.

mmmmm, I like the sound of the potatoes :eat:

Mixed veggies sound good. I don't remember there being any green beans at 'Ohana, but it has been a few years since I ate there. Heck, I don't even remember any rice! That I would have liked!

did they still have the wonton like things?

We all hated the place - service was poor and the meat dry as a bone. One other reason was no choice for dessert - only one of us liked pineapple.
Seems to me that with all the changes at the moment the authenticity of many WDW restaurants is being lost. I dont think that it will be too long before Akershus's authentic dishes will go because of the change in clientele.

I have never experienced dry meat at O'Hana  Just some advice for anyone who goes, you can request the meat anyway you want it.

There are reports that O'Hana has now changed the dessert. They used to bring fresh pineapple and caramel. Now it is being reported that it is banana bread pudding with a bananas foster type sauce. Bread pudding is one of those iffy desserts. Some people can make it great and others it is like a brick :(

Are you going to Ohana again in October Johnie? Did they have the wontons still when you went last week? I loved the meat there, nice and tender and juicy. I'd have asked for a fresh skewer if it was dry.

:D I am going on Oct 1st with JuniorMickey, Breeze and Miraclemoments. The dessert change doesn't bother me too much since I'm usually too full to eat another bite.

Yes, they had the wontons last week. I love those little things:thumbs:

I've found O'Hana to be extremely accomodating. Alysia thought the spices they used on the shrimp to be too strong so I asked if she could get some shrimp without the spice. The chef came out 3 times to make sure everything was ok and she got an entire skewer without spices!

Quite like the banana bread pudding idea although pineapple alone would be good too.

Are the meats on the skewers separate? I will only eat the turkey so will I have to ask before to have turkey only?

PaulaK

The meats are separate  Just ask for anything you want more of and they bring you another skewer! :D

Johnie
September 5th, 2005, 16:07
lisa,
each skewer is of one particular meat. They usuaully bring 2 skewers out at a time. You can ask for what you want. I usually just get steak and shrimp.

That's great - thanks:)

oh alright! I have had enough! Who would I complain to about the changes at O'Hana?

It now seems that they are getting rid of the grilled shrimp and replacing it with pan seared shrimp in the appetizer section. CM's are reporting that the wontons are NOT on the list any longer. And they are now offering sausage.

WHY mess with a good thing? It's always packed and many, many people love it.

JuniorMickey

Are you kidding? I"m going for shrimp. I'm going to be irritated if I don't get the shrimp

Johnie
September 7th, 2005, 02:40
mmmhmmmmm, I go for wontons and shrimp. Occasionally a bite or two of something else :)

They are reporting it over on a much larger discussion board.

They take the shrimp away and I have no reason to go back. I don't like these changes either.

Does anyone know who we complain to? Is it the the main guest relations email?

Wait, I mised the part about no more shrimp! What is the scoop? We are all going there after my wedding and we want shrimp!

PaulaK

I hate the grilled shrimp, but it suits me being on the skewers, I can just decline it. If they bring it out as an appetizer instead of my wontons, i'll :hissy: and then i'll probably

Apparently the only shrimp are going to be on the appetizer plate. :(

From another board and a poster who certainly sounds like she works at O'Hana:

okay guys, here's the scoop! New menu rolls out next Wed. (Sept 14th).
Guests will be greeted with wonton CHIPS, and 3 dipping sauces...Poly Harissa (a spicy red pepper chili garlic sauce), Chimichurri (olive oil, oregano, garlic), and the old stand by Peanut! Then Ohana salad will be tossed table side (they've decided to add shredded carrots to the mix), and the honey lime will stay on the greens. Then honey coriander chicken wings and the new shrimp will hit the table. The shrimp is the same size and marinated with the same sauce that was on the grill, but they're adding chunks of pineapple (sort of the sweet and sour that was on the wontons...and yes, the wontons are no more. Just to let you know though, the old shimp and vegie wontons may be tossed in with the wonton chips until the supply is used up.) The shrimp is still unlimited. After the chicken and shrimp course, the table will be cleared and dishes will be replaced. (guests are welcome to request more chicken and shrimp to go along with the skewers) Then skewers will be brought along with potatoes and vegies. To finish off the meal, the bread pudding will be served. There's a new maritini to go with the bread pudding. It's called Yellow Tang (named after a fish). (the martini is awesome) It's banana liquor, butterscotch schnapps, and Frangellica shaken with pineapple and sour mix and it's served with a cinnamon and sugar rimmed glass.

So, there's the new menu guys. Hopefully everyone enjoys. Go easy on us for the first few weeks. It's going to be a challenge getting used to the new flow of service. We'll do our best.

Johnie
September 9th, 2005, 22:17
We will just tell them you have a pineapple allergy.

JuniorMickey

Add that to the fact that I only eat the shrimp as my main course - just almost becomes a waste of money for me now :sigh: I hate when they mess with a good thing

They sell wonton chips at a Chinese place near me, they are AWESOME. Hopefully these will too. O'Hana is ALL YOU CAN EAT. So, if all you want is shrimp, they will bring it to you sweetie.

The martini does sound good, doesn't it Anne? I get 20% off with my DDE card :D

This was DH's favorite meal last time we went. Guess we'll have to skip it. All the changes just don't appeal to me.:(

Johnie
September 9th, 2005, 22:26
I know what you mean. At least the upcoming meal is free for us since we're doing the free dining plan. But, if it's bad, then we won't be back. Which is awful cause I LOVE O'Hana :( I did send Disney an email but they haven't responded to me yet.

JuniorMickey
September 9th, 2005, 22:26
Well I'm calling now to make them aware of my no pineapple issue

Good idea JM.

You know, they messed around with the Garden Grill menu and people were upset and complained. They brought back the old menu. We need to be vocal or else Disney won't know.
