I know I can use 2000 points and get cheaper economy seats with Virgin but....can I use points to get cheaper PE? I've gone to the Virgin site etc and can't see anything that would suggest I can do this. :(

yes you can use miles and money fares in any class if available.

We have over 8000 miles, but they will only alow you to use a certain amount for miles plus money, what we have is not enough for a PE upgrade, which is a real pain!

Thats great then  . Thought I might not have been able to claim them because of not giving the number at the time of booking :hehe:

I thought it was 7.500 points for a PE upgrade.....am I wrong again?

It's 7500 for a PE miles and money fare that gets you a cash discount off the fare. :)

You are totally right, yes, and I am a total idiot! All this time on the Virgin Atlantic website I have been putting in flights for 2, and of course, the 7500 is per person! So what we are now thinking is book one of us on miles plus money, and the other on the full fare (thats if they are available in August!)
Can't believe I didn't realise that! Duh!

Are they in one person's name or between you both?
Whitequeen
September 6th, 2005, 15:58
Do you not have an account each, Vikki?
Vikki
September 6th, 2005, 16:00
The account is in my name, but the miles were collected by both of us.
Whitequeen
September 6th, 2005, 16:01
You should have 8000+ each if you have an account each.

So are the points in just your name then? I don't think Virgin let you swap points over to another person so if they are in one persons name that will be easier for you :). Do you have any other loyalty schemes like Sheraton? as you can transfer these points to you virgin account.
Vikki
September 6th, 2005, 16:06
Oh noooooooooooo, didn't even think to get an account each, I assumed they would just all go into one! Noooooooooo!
And no, I don't have any other reward things.

Vikki, when did you last fly ? You can claim missing miles from the previous six months
PaulaK
September 6th, 2005, 16:09
....and you can recommend your DH for the bonus miles! Send him a miles more friends email from the VA site and sign him up from there then he can claim his miles.
You can see how many miles you have online in your account.
Vikki

I have 8440 miles in my account, which is enough for one of us to save on miles plus money.....what are these bonus miles oyu speak of??????
And AlecK, it was last August we went unfortunately!

Naughty I know  , but you could always try phoning Virgin and telling them you can't find details of your husband's account. Say you registered both of you at the same time  it's got to be worth a try

If you need to telephone Virgin here's their main switchboard number 01293 562 345 and ask for Flying Club, the one they publish on the website is a national rate number at about 10p per minute.
Vikki
September 6th, 2005, 16:23
I thought of that Wendy, but they would be able to track an existing one down, surely.....and there isn't one :)
I've done the recommendation thing though, worst comes to worst, he'll get miles on his account paying full fare next year, and I'll get the bonus ones, it'll save on our next holiday :)
I don't suppose anyone is going soon who I could recommend

At least we are saving on what we originally thought, which can't be bad. It's absolute torture waiting for the flights to come out though!

Hehehe, me too. When I first put this countdown timer on, it was sooooo depressing! Now it's not so bad.......half as bad as it was if you think about it :)
And triciacarole....I do that too :) I hate the fact the outbound flights are now up, but not the inbound :ohno:
