Can anyone help? Has anyone had experience of changing hotel accommodation with Virgin.
We are booked in the Wyndham Palace for next May but having discoved that it is not longer a Wyndham, that Arthurs 27 (one of the restaurants), another Bar area have been closed and the hotel is to start renovations in the new year, we don't feel the hotel is as advertised. (I know Virgin charge a fee of £25 pp to any changes made but if the accommodation is not as the brochure states or the facilities will they waiver this?) Is it worth us contacting Virgin now all these months ahead and asking to be moved? The last thing we want to do is stay in a 'five star' building site.
I am sure Virgin will tell us all will be ok and they will keep us informed but we would rather make a decision at this stage than a month or two before, when we won't be able to get an alternative that we would be happy with.
Thank you in advance for what I am sure will be sound advice!!!

I'd call and see, pick another hotel out that you like, my guess is if it is equal or more cost wise they may not charge, have you read their terms and conditions? Good luck :)

We haven't changed hotels with Virgin but last time we went we were booked on to a specific flight and 3 months before we were due to go they changed the flight time by a couple of hours. I contacted them and said that this interfered with my plans and could I change to a different flight. They did this no problem and waived the fee as it was a change that they had made.
Don't know if this helps but it's worth a try.

Tell Virgin there have been "significant changes in the accommodation you booked".

I would phone them asap, then it's done, and if they do argue, and you feel the accomadation is not what you booked, contact abta :D

I dont think they would mind too much if you changed hotels, presumably youd pick another hotel that has the same amount of stats and which costs around the same amount of money per person? They wont mind as long as they arent losing any money - but i would do it asap

I have been with Virgin a number of time and made changes, added days, changed hotel etc. I have never been charged for these changes, but my changes have always been as an upgrade so added money in its own right.

Virgin's T&Cs state
"If we make a Major Change to your Holiday, we will inform you or your Travel Agent as soon as reasonably possible, if there is time, before your departure. You will have the choice of either accepting the change of arrangements, accepting an offer of equivalent or superior quality alternative travel arrangements from us if available, accepting alternative travel arrangements from us of a lower standard to the travel arrangements booked together with a refund of the difference in price if available or cancelling your booking and receiving a full refund of all monies paid . You will have 10 days in which to accept a refund, after which, it will be deemed that the refund has been accepted. Such refunds will be made to the Travel Agent or if booking direct to the person who made the booking. In all cases, except where the Major Change arises due to reasons of Force Majeure, when no compensation is payable), we will pay minimum compensation as detailed below."
I guess it depends if Virgin consider this to be a major change. Try :)

I doubt if Virgin will consider it a major change, we were booked into a hotel in San Francisco which had industrial action taking place. It had been going on for 3 weeks before we got there, Virgin knew about it a month before and never informed us and refused to move us.
If I were you I would get moved to another hotel now. If you get answered by the Call Centre ask to speak to someone in the UK, they have to transfer you back.
Another thing are you a FVC member, as if you ring the Club number they will probably be more helpful. Good luck

Thank you all for your advice on this. Have today changed to the Port Orleans - French Quarter. Virgin have waivered the admin charge so other than the increase in the price of the hotel we have nothing more to pay. Really glad we pushed for the waivered admin fee, saved us in total £275.
Thank you all again

I've just changed my hotel with virgin holidays. Their brochure says 25.00 per person amendment fee. ( there are 3 of us)
I was really impressed because they only changed me 25.00 instead of 75.00. Now i realise i could have been a little more pushy and got it free.
:sigh: :sigh:
