There are no Wal-Mart stores on I-Drive. The closest and most convenient is the one on Sand Lake, about 10-20 minutes away by car depending on where on I-Drive you are located.

Here is the Google Map from the Quality Inn on I-Drive to Wal-Mart (I'm assuming you are staying there from looking at you siggie  )

Quality Inn to Wal-Mart - Google Map (http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&saddr=7600+International+Dr,+Orlando,+FL+32819&daddr=8101+John+Young+Parkway,+Orlando,+FL+32819&hl=en)

Where are you staying? Will you have a car?

how much would that cost in a taxi?

Is that a good Walmart?

SorcererMickey
September 12th, 2005, 20:26
I'm not familiar with taxis in Orlando, never taken one, but I would think that it's not more that $15-20.

Good? Well, it's a Wal-Mart, this one is the better one in the area, this one caters more to tourist traffic, lots of taxis and buses dropping-off and picking-up tourist and groups.

Whatever you do, avoid the Kirkman Rd. Walmart. I used to live right across the street from there and it is one scary place. Shootings in the parking lot, muggings, carjackings, etc. I was more than happy to move away from there!

It's not a very nice one, either by the way. The Sandlake/John Young one or the 192 one is much better.

Maybe they meant Walgreen's? Easy to confuse if you're not used to the names. Walgreen's is a pharmacy

I've been on that one (on the 27 north of the 192)- it's only a mile or two from the villa I use - it's the same as all the others as far as I can see.

Yes, the Kirkman Rd. Walmart has always been problematic. I don't really know what the story is behind it, but when they opened that place, the troubles started right off.

The new one on 27 just north of 192 west is pretty nice, albeit a bit small. There is a good selection of merchandise there though, and they do stock for the visitor.

I still prefer the one on 192 (heading east toward/in Kissimmee). I don't know why (not being much of a Walmart fan overall) but that one just seems to have a bit of everything!

There's a brand new Walmart Supercenter on 535 at the intersection with Poinciana Blvd.

It's on your right if you're traveling from say LBV or IDrive about half a mile shy of 192.

It's also the largest retail store I've ever been in. If you're buying something on the east side of the store, and then want to look for something on the west side - well, pack a lunch for the trip.

Oh, didn't know about that one. I don't usually venture east of Celebration on US192. That is much closer than Sand Lake for people staying at Disney. Will have to check it out this afternoon.

Here is the Google Map to it...

Katie :)

Yep! Basically all the grocery type stuff Walmart does along with clothes, toys, DVDs, CDs etc. It's big by UK standards. There isn't a fabric or as large an electronics section as Walmart but the rest of the sections they lack aren't things the average Brit would be bothered with (tyres or guns anyone?!) Target is slightly more upmarket than Walmart therefore less crowded and it has a Starbucks inside =]

Thanks Lizzy - I'll have to teke a look (don't know where I'm going to find the time). It was the Starbuck's which convinced me. I only have 1 coffee a day now so I know where I can get my fix. That's another question answered for me now - no need to ask where I'll find a Starbucks, although I know there is one at Premium Outlets.

For me it's ethical reasons mostly:

But also I found Walmart very crowded and there was a lot of flies about whereas Target was much cleaner and more pleasant in general.

WalMart can be a bit controversial regarding their employment practices--some people don't like them.

Shop where you choose--it's American enterprise in action. I prefer WalMart for some items, Target for others, and K-Mart for still other items! And some things I purchase regularly aren't available at any of them!

We shopped in Publix when we were there. We prefered it to Walmart. Not too sure why though. I think maybe Publix resembles an english supermarket more. I was shocked to find Walmart was kinda like a giant Aldi!

OKWTink
September 16th, 2005, 12:29
Publix carries a better quality of food than does Walmart, particularly with regard to meat and fish.

I'm not saying that I don't go to Walmart, but I do try to avoid it as much as possible. Many reason, some political, some social, others personal. :)

I shop at Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Publix and BJs for most of my food items. I like Target, loathe K-Mart (yes, its like a smaller version of Walmart) and as said, attempt to avoid Walmart as much as possible.

I'm really not much of a shopper, but must share this. If anyone is looking for ANY SORT of shoes or footwear while in the Millenia Mall area, go across the street to the DSW store!

Be prepared to be totally awed. :D

Winn Dixie is falling victim to bad management. High prices, mediocre selection and lower quality food than Publix. Fairly poor service too.

I personally hate K-Mart. It was my first job and I'll just say they don't treat their employees very well. They also are in bankruptcy and closed a boatload of stores.

Winn Dixue actually went out of business here earlier in the year. I was very surprised to see the one in Lake Buena Vista still open.

I love Wal-Mart and Target :)
