We were booked to stay at the Quality Inn Plaza on international drive next month but have just changed to Holiday Inn, has anyone got any reviews on this hotel.
We have stayed at the Plaza 3 times before and everything was great but the last time was six years ago. Yesterday i found out about www.tripadvisor.com (http://www.tripadvisor.com) and have read some awful reviews about that hotel. People were saying the rooms smelt damp and was dirty and the worst thing was that some rooms were infested with cockroaches and ants. Well, i had a sleepless night worrying about it and imagining all sorts so at 9am this morning i phoned virgin to change our hotel booking. The girl i spoke was really helpful and although my first 2 choices were fully booked our third choice (Holiday inn) had vacancies. She changed the booking and only charged us 25 pound instead of 75 pound for the amendment, although we had to pay two hundred pound more for the hotel but if that means no cockroaches then thats fine.

Has anyone else got any horror stories about the Quality Inn Plaza ? :)

As I have posted in the past......we wouldn't stay there again. However, it is my understanding that they had been refurbished since our stay there in 2003.
Other members of this board have stayed there and found it fine.

The reviews i read about the cockroaches were dated 2004.
They may have sorted them out but i wasn't going to chance it, I wouln't have been relaxed enough to sleep in case one of these creatures paid a visit.

I stayed at the Quality Inn Plaza last Feb and the Holiday Inn International in 96. I found both the Plaza and Holiday Inn fine, I tend to read the reports on these websites and then make my own mind up. They do need to be placed in context though. You will never please everybody all the time. I do think sometime people from the Uk can have too high an expectation of the hotels. They have paid over £2500 for a self catering holiday and had they stayed in Europe they would have had 4* for that, they can sometimes forget the distance they have travelled and expect that standard of hotel when they get there.

A few years ago we went to Albena in Bulgaria and stayed at a very nice 4* Rui Hotel. We ended up with the family from **** on our second week. We had mother, father, 4 grown up kids and a couple of grandkids. They were awful, swearing loudly, getting drunk and abusive, kicking the football all around the hotel pool ect. Anyway they hated Bulgaria, the resort and the Hotel. Father constantly complained about the food. "I don't want to eat this **** why can't they serve proper English food" They told anyone who would listen that they were going to write a bad report about the hotel on the holidays uncovered website. The hotel was lovely, I was very happy with it as were every other person I spoke to, but of course as with life mostly people who have had bad experiences complain and those who were fine don't normally say. Had I listened to what they had said I would never have gone there.

But you can't put a price on ease of mind and I might have done the same as you and changed my hotel. You will enjoy the Holiday Inn and it is right across the road from Wet N Wild!!!

I agree, some people just arn't happy and will find fault with everything. I have read complaints about the lifts being slow, air con being too cold and some other really petty stuff.

I know you get what you pay for but there was no way i was going to pay for those extra little visitors to stay in my room free of charge. :afraid:

Not fond of sharing your room with the local wildlife, are you?

Don't forget our friendly cockroaches predate us by a few thousand years! :)

Nooooooo, im terrified of anything like that. :afraid: :afraid: :afraid: :afraid: :afraid:

If i happened to come across one in my hotel room, the whole place would hear me scream.

Would i be better off asking for a top floor room or would they manage to climb up that far too.

If they want to be in your room, they'll climb to the moon, if necessary!

Most resorts have good pest control, so you probably won't need to worry very much.

We stayed at the HI I-Drive three weeks ago and it was fine. We were in the tower which is seperate from the main building but there are rooms in the main building too. The room was large and the air conditioning was very effective but quite noisy. The decor and fittings were not brand new but were clean and well maintained.

The pool isn't massive but was big enough for the kids to have a quick play in when we returned from the parks. It has a pool bar which is handy but again the pool is part of the main building complex and if you're in the tower it's a bit of a trek to get there in your cozzies! (But not impossible!)

All in all if you're just looking for somewhere to rest your weary head it's ideal. If you're looking for a luxury hotel to spend time relaxing in I'd look elsewhere. :)

hey me and my family stayed at quality inn plaza, july 2005, rooms were fine in terms of meeting up with cockroaches!! it was clean and tidy room was ok had fridge and microwave...only problem we had was the noise....hotel backs onto the busy interstate abd traffic noise is awful, also found noise from other floors was really bad u could hear very clearly people on the floor abouve talking laughing and walking....many disturbed sleeps at this hotel but in terms of clenliness it was fine no complaints.
Staying at the Rosen Centre this year worked out almost same price as going to quality inn plaza so very pleased that we should be staying in really good hotel for same price as an ok hotel. Any one been to Rosen Centre recently and can tell me anything about it?

Please take Tripadvisor with a grain of salt. There is no screening as to who posts so the person may not have even stayed there or had a negative encounter with one staff and decided to psot a very negative review. Read the reviews very carefully.

Some of our favorite hotels- The Portofino Bay and Royal Pacific aty Universal and the Wyndham Palms REsort have some pretty bad reviews. One review I read on the Wyndham had msiinformation as to the layout of the rooms and check in. I had stayed there so I knew the information was wrong as well as the quality of the resort. Has I not stayed there already, I may have changed my mind based ont he reviews.

Also, I thought that there's always the possibility of a cochraoch almost anywhere in Florida and they are only kept in bay by regular spraying.

I totally agree with Huntermom, don't take all you read on Tripadvisor as gospel. We stayed in the Rodeway Inn 3 weeks ago and it was great, however before we went we read the reviews on Tripadvisor and the next day I rang up to inquire about changing to another hotel, but I declined at the last minute because it was working out to costly considering that I was just doing this because of some reviews I'd read on Tripadvisor. So we decided to take our chances and if the Rodeway Inn was that bad we would just go and see our rep when we were there and demand to be moved. Anyway, we worried for nothing, our hotel turned out to be spot on and we never encountered any of the horror stories that we had read about.

We stayed at the Quality Inn International back in January and found that to be pretty good also, contrary to some reports we had read on tripadvisor as well.

At least now you have peace of mind i suppose, and that accounts for alot.

Hi,

My family and I went to Quality Inn Plaza last June/July 2004. We did have one cockroach run across the floor then dissapeared under the fridge, didn't see it again though. Didn't mnd the traffic, wasn't too bad from where we were, 8th floor. But I recall almost every morning about half five onwards the large skip bins being emptied, huge bangs!!

Anyone else have that?

Part from that, not bad hotel.

Dan.

Hey had a panic when I read Cockroaches, had to re-read. We are staying at Holiday Inn and I thought thats where they had been seen. After staying in Lanzarote last year and there were loads in our hotel, I hate them.
Have been wondering about the local "wildlife" though. What sort of things are we likely to find? My friend was mentioning snakes???!!!??? I quite fancy seeing an armadillo though, what are the chances of that?
