I know I shouldnt be, and I know people have probably said this sort of thing and others have replied to this sort of thing etc etc etc, however I'm me, Im no one else, so I just want to post this.
I am visiting Florida for my first time ever Sep30 - Oct14 and when I'm seeing headlines on the news (last night) like "Florida Tourists Flee as Jeb Bush Declares a State of Emergency due to Hurricane Rita" ... and "Katrina predicted to return towards Florida" and stuff...
...this sort of thing doesnt make me look forward to the holiday, it makes me very nervous, couple that with the nerves of being a very nervous flyer, and then couple that with the fact that this is my first time to the USA without my parents, and it just makes me get all nervous about my holiday/vacation instead of getting excited.
I know I shouldnt worry, I know this sort of thing has probably been dealt with loads on these boards, and I'm sorry, but I dont know who else to talk to about it to calm myself down.
I love you all, and I know you wont mind me gushing like this :sorry:

Oh dear Adam you will be fine  . As far as hurricanes are concerned they don't usually hit Orlando, most people actually get evacuated from coastal areas to there, you may get a bit of a storm but usually thats it. If it did happen you are in the best place staying at WDW the will really look after you.
On the flight look forward to the films that are showing, let cabin crew know you are nervous and they will look out for you. Don't think about what might happen, think about what you are sure of, that you will have a fab time at Disney and do what all of us do - come back and book again :D.

Gush all you want, love! That's what we're here for.:)
Now, I'm not your best person for predicting the weather, but I know someone will be along shortly to give you the facts on it.
I'm the one that's going to tell you to stay calm.........and breath...........good!:D
It's the big build up and to you it feels like everything that can go wrong will go wrong..........we all do it. It's a big thing which makes the worries you have seem bigger.
Take one thing at a time. First the flight, nothing I say is going to stop a nervous flyer from being nervous, but you're going to be fine. It's an adventure that you and your partner are about to embark on. 'Adam & Phil's Big Adventure'!!:D Treat it as an adventure instead of a worry.
i don't know what the weather's going to do, but last year I don't remember much evacuating going on. People were looked after within their accommodation, but not evacuated. I can't say that won't happen again, what I can say is make each second on your trip count and if the weather takes a turn for the worst, you will have enjoyed the things you have done. So basically, think about doing all the good stuff and enjoying yourselves and deal with anything else as it happens. That way you won't be miserable before you get there.
Smile for me please, think good thoughts and pack a notebook..............we need to hear all about 'Adam & Phil's Big Adventure'.:)

You sound just like me about a week before I fly to Florida. It's perfectly normal to have last minute panics so if you want to gush then you just go ahead and have a good gush.
Don't worry about the weather. You can't change it so no point worrying about it.
Don't worry about the flight. It will be fine.
And don't listen to anything Jeb Bush says, he's a bigger ijeet than his brother.
You're going to have a fantastic "Adam and Phil do Orlando" trip. And we want to hear every last detail. :)

Awwww  Try not to let the sensationalism of the media ratchet your worries to unpleasant levels, ok? No one is fleeing anywhere. The coastal areas of the Keys are always evacuated for tourists when a TS or other major weather event is in the vicinity. It's really standard procedure, and now (and I'll bet for some years to come) after Katrina, everyone is going to be seriously jumpy about any breeze over three miles per hour. :)
Jebbie? :lmao: Right. Do what we do, Mr. Wolf. Turn the boy off!
Big breaths for the flight. Just think of it as an extended Disney Attraction, eh?

You're gonna be fine hun . I get SOOOOOO stressed out before the flight. I'm usually so laid back i'm horizontal :hehe:, but it's like dragging a completely different person on that plane. I have learnt various things to get me through boarding because once i'm on there, I don't give it a second thought. I do have a mild sedative though. Deep breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth works, it will make you focus. I also grab a magazine and a bottle of water to get me through take-off, again something to distrcat me. personally, I don't tell the attendants i'm nervous, that would make me worse making an issue of it, I prefer to be left alone and quietly ignored, but that's just me
I can't help with the weather either, but you can't change that. Try to remember that the scenes from New Orleans are NOT the norm after a hurricane. Sure it's scarey, but you are in a pretty safe place at WDW and as others have said, they make an extra effort to take care of you in these situations. please try not to worry and look forward to all the things you guys are going to experience . You'll have the best time ever!!! :micbounce

Adam, it's like a wedding - you can plan all you want but it's the things that go wrong that you'll remember! Plus of course the wonderful things that go oh so right! You are going to have a fantastic time!! No matter what happens!

Rita is no where near Orlando and Katrina is dead and burried. Rita has the Florida Keys under a hurricane warning and Miami-Dade and Broward Counties under a tropical storn warning.
You're going to have a wonderful trip! I'm heading up there the same time (well a bit of it  and nothing spoils my trips to Disney :thuumbs: )
As Tink says, ignore Jebbie. I know I do :lmao:

On the upside Adam, crowds may stay away at the threat of a storm, at least locals, and you may have really small lines. That happened on our first trip to the World! We got right on the rides!

If it rains a bit and you're in the parks, just keep going and have fun while most guests run for cover! A few rides/attractions will close for a bit under certain weather conditions, but most will remain open.
You've invested a lot in this holiday and it's important! If it makes you feel better, take a quick peek at The Weather Channel each night and morning, then forget about it unless something unusual is about to blow into Orlando. If that seems likely, ask your resort management if you need to do anything special. Usually the most you can do is stay out of heavy winds to avoid injury and avoid being out when it's lightning. Just like at home!
Orlando is well inland, so most of the warnings to the coastal areas won't affect you, if there are any storms. You'll probably have gorgeous weather with the odd shower and a bit of wind. Use common sense, relax and enjoy yourselves!

Lol i thought of watching the movies on our Virgin Flight on Aug 14th Last year (Charley) and they had the day after tomorrow on!!! and also another film about weather and planes crashing - not too good of a choice by the cabin crew :|
You should be fine my then anyway as dont usually get hurricanes into October as it goes less humid etc. Have a good trip! Once you been to Orlando you wont be rushing back to little DLP in a hurry!

Once you been to Orlando you wont be rushing back to little DLP in a hurry!
Whenever people were saying this stuff in the past, ie putting DLP down compared to WDW etc, I was always defensive because I know DLP so well I guess, but now Im starting to agree.... when I come back, we'll see, but I bet WDW *is* better than DLP, I just didnt want to admit, but I wont stay away from DLP as such, it still is beautiful and incredibly detailed with some of the best versions of the rides such as Big Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain etc, but when I come back I'll know whether I'm converted to saving up for longer and going to WDW instead, heh

My exact thoughts just 12 months earlier, we are off to WDW nxt Sept (first visit).
Been to DLP 5 years from the last 6! always at Christmas time!
Take the thoughts of DLP with you and I am sure that WDW will NOT let you down.

H2B and I were down there last year during Hurricane Jeane. We were fine. We didn't lose power, have any windows break, or see any flooding. We just bought a bunch of snack food from the gift shop, drank champagne, ordered pizza and laid around watching movies all day. It was H2B's favorite part of our trip that time around.
After it was over the gift shop even lets us return the food we didn't open.
BTW - The gift shops drinks and snacks are bigger and cheaper than the food court.
I hope you two have a blast!

Hehehe, same here, we went on the 15th :)
I actually started watching it......then we had some of the most awful turbulance I have ever felt, so I stopped watching it :D
And TR_Wolf, if it is a bit stormy in the parks it will be less busy, and I see you are from Manchester so you're used to the bad weather anyway :D
Even if a hurricane does hit, you will be kept safe and informed, try not to worry
