I am so excited - we have booked our very first trip with DVC. :wiggle: :wiggle: So far two weeks at SSR (home resort) with the intention of changing our second week to Vero Beach.

We are taking my parents, aged 70 & 73, who probably will not be up to visiting the parks and so one of the reasons for choosing our second week at Vero Beach.

I have a concern that when we come to change our second weeks booking to Vero Beach at the 7 month point we may be told that it is full. (This will be 1st June 2006 for 7 nights.)

Has this ever happened to anyone, and if so can you recommend a suitable alternative?

Cheers

I think you should be ok. Most of the schools in the northeast will still be in session. You will LOVE Vero Beach. It is very relaxing. We really enjoyed our time there. How much do you like the beach? You may get bored with a whole week there.

You should be ok with the 7 month window, but make sure you call as soon as you can.

Vero Beach is very popular with locals and local DVC members. It's a nice escape and a relatively short drive for many of us. That is our home resort and we live in Orlando.

Thanks for that. Mum and dad are gentle retired folk and usually go abroad to a quiet beach resort for 2 weeks, so really the second week is for them. We are doing a fly drive so if DH and DDs get bored we can always explore (aqny suggestions welcome) - DH wants to go to the Space Centre, so we'll probably do that one day.
(I've got the 7 month deadline marked on my calendar!!)

Your parents should enjoy their stay at Disney's Vero Beach Resort. There is a set of stairs (the ramp is sometimes closed  ) that must be used to reach the actual beach, so if either of them have mobility problems you might want to be prepared for that.

There isn't a huge lot to do in the immediate area. Orchid Island is pretty much residential. Taking a trip to KSC is a good idea for something to do, but it's a bit of a ride.

There is a mall (so I'm told, not ever sought it out) southwards in Vero Beach proper.

I'd say if you book right at the 7month mark you probably won't have much trouble getting in. You didn't mention what size villa you'll be booking but flexibility on that may be of help if you do find that availibility is tight.( i.e. - if you intended to book a 2bdrm villa and there's no availibility you may want to try for either 2 studios and request they be in the same bldng and/or near each other or try for 2 inn rooms...which by the way I hear they do have SOME connecting ones, though a limited amount of them). If all else fails, if you can be flexible with your dates that can also be a help but chances are if you call at exactly 7months out, you'll have no problem. :)

Thanks for all your help and advice.

Mum does have mobility problems, so we'll have to hope the ramp is open.

Good advice about the request for the room though, I would have just requested a 2 bedroomed villa, but will now also add that we would consider other options if our first choice isn't available.

Thanks
