We are 75% on the way in planning our first trip to WDW nxt September but the recent weather has thrown a spanner in the works (as far as my parents are concerned).
Party of 6 me, wife, two children (3&5) and the kids grandparents!
The recent storms has put doubt into my parents mind, so we are now looking at early October, any views?
Will be hiring Townhouse with splah pool.
Until later:eek:

Personally I would choose October.

Reason 2: MNSSHP
Reason 3: Did I mention EPCOT Food & Wine Festival? :hehe:

Hurricane season lasts till Nov 30th. So, Oct isn't any better than Sept in terms of that.
I'd pick Oct though because of all the extra activities.

Another thing to bear in mind is that hurricanes lose most of their impetus when they hit land, and you could not be much further inland in Florida than at Orlando.
If you are staying on-site, you will find that Disney takes very good care of their guests whenever a hurricane is on it`s way.
We were there a few years ago during Hurricane Ffloyd [staying at OKW] and we had a daily update on the situation and they even loaned us a torch in the event that a power cut may have occurred. In the event, we experienced little more than a gentle breeze for a while, although they did close the parks for a while to be ultra safe.
We have been in September many times and lived to tell the tale!
Don`t worry, you`ll be fine.

We've been in September and it is a lovely time to go, but I think if I was going that time of year again I would go in October for all the reasons John gave.

And, although it is still "officially" hurricane season in October, they RARELY hit during October.

Early October still is a high risk. Hurricanes don't know the difference between September 30 and October 1. The later in the month it gets, the lower the risk.

We were in Orlando last year when Charlie hit town. We were staying in a hotel in Kissimmee and had no real problems. Everything shut down early on the day the Hurricane came through and were back in the hotel by mid afternoon. The hotel only lost power a couple of times for a few minutes. Most of the tourists staying at the hotel were out on the outside staircases watchong the winds and rain. Next morning the hurricane had gone through and we went off to MGM. We did find out later from other visitors that alot of the villa's had lost power for the days after hurricane.
Overall, I would not worry too much about the weather. Florida seems a lot more prepared than New Orleans was.
We are off again this year during October half term, and as mentioned before we are going to the haloween nights. Book your holiday and have fun.

Don't let the hurricane season put a damper on your holiday plans. Hurricane season lasts for 6 months, but this never stops us from going. This is an active season, but most of them didn't hit the US. Now, if a hurricane is formed and headed towards central FL before you leave for WDW, you might want to postpone you trip. We go in October almost every year, mainly because of the Food & Wine festival.

This really is not an option for us visitors from the UK.
Unless the airline or travel company themselves cancel or postpone the arrangements, the chances are that any traveller would lose their money which they have paid for their vacation.
By the time that a hurricane is known to be en - route to Florida, the vacation would have been paid for in full.

Do you have some kind of travel insurance?

Do you have so kind of travel insurance?
It is very unlikely that any insurance company would pay out because you decided to postpone your trip.
If the airlines and tour operators feel that it`s safe enough to travel, then you go!

Having just come back I would say September is no problem. Rita gave us cloud cover and that was it. The clouds were great cause they helped me stop getting burnt and apart from that the weather was still great.
A lot from the Keys came up to Orlando during Rita and it was nice to chat to some in my hotel. It helped with the worring.
