Hi Everyone!

Could anyone give me a bit of advice?

We're off to Orlando in 3 weeks, and we're hoping to visit a walmart while we're there.

Which is the best walmart for tourists? Is it easy to get a towncar / taxi there and back?

Do Supermarkets in the USA have cafe's like they do in this country, in case we need some food / drink while we're there? :D

Thanks for any advice!

There are three Wal-Marts that are "tourist friendly" in the area. Depending where you will be staying, one will be closer than the other.

If you are staying in a Disney resort or along US192, there is a new Wal-Mart on the intersection of US192 and SR535. It's about 1 mile away from Downtown Disney.

If you are staying on International Drive, there is a Wal-Mart on the intersection of Sand Lake Road and John Young Parkway.

If you are staying along US192 West or at a Villa on US27. There is another one at the corner of US192 and US27 at the area known as "Four Corners".

Let us know where you will be staying and we'll give you exact directions  .

Hi!

We're staying at the Caribbean Beach resort.

Bit of a long shot but ... the walmart that's only a mile away, I don't suppose it's safe to walk to it from Downtown Disney is it?

Thanks!

Andrew

Hardly anywhere in WDW is "pedestrian friendly".
That`s not because there is a risk of being mugged or anything like that, but there are not that many pavements [sidewalks] to use anyhow.

I thought that was probably the case :( - but I thought we might get lucky :D as it's only a mile away, it would only take half an hour or so to walk there, but obviously if it's not pedestrian friendly, we won't bother!

You'd probably get hit trying to cross under I4.

Your best option would be the one on the intersection of SR535 and US192  .

Here is a satellite image, notice the distance from DTD to the Wal-Mart. You can take a taxi from the resort directly to the Wal-Mart or take a Disney bus to DTD and take a taxi from there. They line up in front of PI and WOD, hard to miss.

I got back from Orlando on sunday and we must have visited our local WalMart about 10 times!!! Not only was it huge, but very cheap. My hubby brought loads of cool tshirts for about $10 each. And on my last day, I found an entire isle FULL of sweets..too bad I'd already packed my case otherwise I would have spent a fortune!!!

Cool

Was it the one Sorceror Mickey mentioned?

we went to this one:

"There is another one at the corner of US192 and US27 at the area known as "Four Corners".

It was massive!

The Wallmart at the 192/27 is fairly new and is massive. It probably stocks anything you can think off. The prices are great, it's worth a visit but then all Wallmarts are.

Actually, the one on "Four Corners" is smaller compared to others in the area.

It's a different concept for a more community based Wal-Mart. It was a lot cheaper to build. One of the differences is the flooring is not terrazo but just painted concrete among other "cost saving" measures. The aisles are a bit wider for better circulation. It also does not stock as many items as the one on Sand Lake.

I think we'll probably visit the one on US192, cos it's the closest!

Would we have to phone for a taxi to get back to disneyworld, or are there taxis waiting outside?

The intersection of US192 and SR535 is a major landmark south of Disney, you won't have a problem catching a taxi as you exit.
