We have pre booked our seats with virgin and there is no more available to chose from, but would we be able to change them

Do they hold some seats at the airport that are not pre bookable ?

My Dad (who's in hospital at he moment if you've read my other thread) has a trapped nerve in his back and the seats we have pre booked are on the right hand side of the plane. His trapped nerve is on the right hand side of his body and it means he feels more comfortable if he can stretch his right leg out straight.

We wanted to change our seats to the left hand side of the plane so he is able to sit in an aisle seat and then stretch out his leg into the aisle (without tripping people up of course).

So when we check in, is it possible that we would be able to change our seats. We don't really want to steal somebody elses pre booked seats so would they have other seats available.

We knew we cannot sit in the exit seats because my 7 year old son will be there (i don't think they allow children to sit there) and we didn't really want to sit in a bulkhead seat because the arm rests do not raise.

Sorry, this all sounds pretty confusing doesn't it. So if anyone can understand what i am trying to say, can you offer any advice.

Also does anyone know if seats 21 abc left hand side on the LGW route recline fully. There is no seat behind them but sometimes you have a divider which stops the seats fully reclining

thanks

I would be surprised if the majority of seats have been pre-booked, so you should have no problems in swapping over.
I would try to get at the check in as early as you can so that you can have the pick of what is available though.
You will find the check in staff will be very sympathetic if you explain your situation.

Thanks slowhand, we were thinking of checking in on line, will we still be able to swap our seats or will we be allocated our original ones.

I've checked on VA site and there are no more seats left to choose from

If I were you Rainy, I`d be inclined to make a phone call to Virgin and explain your dilemma to them. I`m sure they would be able to sort something out...who knows, you may get upgraded! [Don`t bank on it though! ]

Sometimes extra seats will be available when online check-in opens. Friends of our struggled to get 7 together, but the day before, they got a 4 and a 3 across the aisle from each other using online. Only 60% of the seats are allocated before check-in so you should be okay using online, if not, trying on the day. It's not like you're asking for anything extravagant, simply a seat your dad can stretch his leg out in. Good luck and I hope he's better soon :fingers:

These are all the problems i get for inviting a OAP to travel with me
(he'll :whack: me when he reads this)

I will check in on line then as soon as it opens and i will try for seats 21abc as these look pretty good. Please someone let me know if they know different.

We managed to change our seats a couple of days before travel last year, after I got a tip off that they do release some more 2 days prior to the flight. So thats worth a try.
If that doesn't happen, as Paula said, try on-line or just make sure you get to check-in as early as poss!

 I've just remembered, it was Customer Services that changed our seats when I phoned & politely requested 2 days before ( I couldn't get them on-line at that stage but had been told that customer services get a few extra seats released at that point).
We were then able to get the seats at the rear that are in 2's - these could be really helpful to your Dad........my DH is 6' 3" tall and said these seats were definately better for him. It was easier to stretch his legs out.
