Shorter Illuminations at Epcot

Hi All

I don't know if this has been mentioned on the boards before (did a search but couldn't find anything).

I was looking at another site that has a news story of one of the illumination barges in the lake at Epcot exploding whilst being "loaded" and sending a large piece of metal 25 foot into the air. No one was hurt.

The barge was badly damaged and has been taken out of the show.

Yeah, read about this somewhere also. I dont think removing the fire effects from the show makes any significant impact on the quality of the display. I doubt even those familiar with Illuminations would notice either. It'll Still be worth seeing :thumbs: :fworks:

I never really much cared for the fire effects. It kind of scared me. :blush: I've often thought that some of the show could be reworked. It actually gets a bit boring in the middle bit, where the lasers are playing off the smoke from the fireworks. :shrug: It's not my favorite show, but is quite nice and well worth seeing.

Just glad to know that no one was injured. Those barges are loaded with explosives! :eek:

i loved it when we first went in 2000 seemed to last for ages, i guess thats the ToN part, if so bring it back its all over far too quickly now :D

we were there two nights ago (three?) and the show is the same length, just missing the fire part. We spoke with one of the kids on one of the nearby barges, he said no one was hurt, and they do not know when/if it will return, as they are discussing redoing the show for 2007 anyways and the barge is extremely expensive. It has not been ruled out at this time, however.

Great, MMac! I'm ready for something new at Epcot. I don't remember the last time we hung around long enough to see Illuminations, and once was enough for ToN. That song is about as bad as IASW. I get it stuck in my head and it drives me up the wall!

Saw it several times during my trip last week...can't say I missed anything...nor was I disappointed...in fact, I was able to watch it from some very different locations this time...which made the show fresh and new :D
