View Full Version : What do you think is the most themed/beautiful ride

What do you think is the most beautiful and themed ride in all of Walt Disney World? I think it will be Expedition Everest because the sheer amount of time they spent designing and building this will equal to a phenomenal ride experience. Think Matterhorn Bobsleds except a whole lot more themed and thrilling. What are your thoughts?
P.S What is the official length of Expedition Everest(in feet)

ToT also has fantastic theming.

Expedition Everest will definetely make Animal Kingdom a must see on everyone's list and will hopefully make it into a high class park like Magic Kingdom. I don't see what the big deal is about EPCOT. It hardly has any rides and I find the theming/atmosphere at Animal Kingdom to be much better. So why do people say EPCOT is so good? I rode the Mission: Space and it was the only spectacular ride, all the other places of the park you walk and read stuff. EPCOT's more of a high tech learning center than a theme park.

I think what's fantastic about WDW is that there is something for everyone. We all don't have the same views or likes. I personally love Epcot and it's actually my favorite park. :D

I agree. I think atmosphere/theming is the most important part of a theme park and that's why Animal Kingdom is my favourite park. However, with the addition of Expedition Everest, it will be on many people's top lists.

EPCOT is not SUPPOSED to be about rides. It's supposed to be about curiosity, and education. Even the rides they have reflect that. Space exploration, automobile testing, etc. EPCOT is great, if you aren't looking for thrill rides. Animal Kingdom is a waste of space, in my opinion. Most of the rides are carnival rides. And, everything is so spread out, that you are too tired to keep moving. I took a train, to a petting zoo, in order to brush goats. Big deal. One big ride is not going to make it worth going to. I would rather spend all day, at EPCOT, than 15 minutes at AK.

I love Epcot, although if ranking the parks, it's third on mine. I love that I can travel through the world in a couple of hours, build a robot and race it, go through the house of the future, test a car, contruct a mission to mars and soar over CA. I love that I can be shrunk and reminded that I have an imagination and that we're all part of starship earth.

Animal Kingdom is not supposed to be about rides. It's supposed to be about how humans interact with animals and nature. The theming is supposed to make you feel as if you were actually interacting with the animals and make you feel in tone with nature. And the rides they have are not carnival rides. They are high profit rides built by Disney themselves. The only carnival rides are in the kiddie section in Dinoland U.S.A. I would rather spend a whole day at Animal Kingdom(or more!!) than wasting $$$ going into EPCOT. My favourite disney parks in order are:
1. Animal Kingdom
2. Magic Kingdom
3. MGM Studios
4. EPCOT
DizBot

I don't see how they can be "high profit" rides, when you don't pay to go on them. Of course they are built by/for Disney. But, there is not much there that you could not find at your local state fair. Plus, I don't know how you can consistantly feel close to nature, when you have to walk a mile and a half to get from place to place.
In Order:
Magic Kingdom
Epcot
MGM Studios
Sleeping
Walking
Watching paint dry
rectal exam
Animal Kingdom

Why do you hate Animal Kingdom so much? They're not state fair rides ok? They are highly themed rides that show mankind's relation to nature. And you're not supposed to speed through the park, you're supposed to take your time and enjoy the theming and sights. If you're the kind of person who likes rides, you're better off at Six Flags or something. I like Animal Kingdom because you learn about animals in an unique way. And since you put it that way, I'll probably never go to EPCOT on account of I find it boring for a theme park. All you do is walk around reading and learning about different cultures. If I want to learn something, I can just go on the internet or library. I, sure as heck ain't gonna pay $60 + for a learning session. I would without a doubt prefer relaxing in a beautifully themed park with a few, but sensational rides. Magic Kingdom is way too crowded and I can never get anything done. Besides, it's already been done before in Disneyland , which has Indiana Jones and Matterhorn. Animal Kingdom is the true, unique Disney "Theme Park". Animal Kingdom will become a lot more popular with thril seeking guests in the near future, but for plant/animal lovers like me who enjoy theming and atmosphere, it's already a perfect park.

Hi everyone :wavesmile
My Disney parks in order are:
1. Epcot
2. Magic Kingdom
3. Downtown Disney (including Disney Quest)
4. MGM
5. Animal Kingdom
I want to explain my choices if that's okay...
I'm not really much of a rollercoaster fan - I get sick  on them, sorry CF1990 - so my order is not based on the ride aspect of each park. It's really about the ability of the park to hold my interest and make me want to keep exploring to find out more.
Epcot - I LOVE THIS PARK. It helps to quench my thirst for technical knowledge and makes me want to come back for more. It always leaves me in complete awe of Disney and also how far technology has come in such a relative short space of time. What is in store for us in years to come I wonder??
Magic Kingdom - This really brings out the kid in me. I made a concious decision on our first trip to leave my inhibitions in the parking lot and just enjoy myself. Always enjoy this park.
Downtown Disney - Who doesn't like to shop for Disney goodies to bring home? Finished off with a few rounds of video games and hopefully beat the wife at some of them :blush2:
MGM - I always enjoy this park. I have always enjoyed the whole cinema going/film viewing thing and have recently began to dabble in home video editing of holidays and family events. I'm still learning the basics but this park holds a certain interest for me because of that.
Animal Kingdom - I consider myself to be an animal lover (no funny comments please ) so I did enjoy AK on our 2003/05 trips. We enjoyed the Kilimanjaro Safari thing and the Festival of the Lion King just blew me away both times we saw it. These are really why the park features on my list at all :) to be honest but there really wasn't enough there for me to want to go further.
I hope this quick review managed to hold your interest. You did so well to come this far and I only have one more thing to say here. These opinions are my own humble ones and I don't want to force them on anyone. I am just explaining my preferences on the Disney parks so please don't attack little old me if you disagree with any of them :afraid:
Thanks for listening :)

Why do you people not like Animal Kingdom? It's the most themed park and it has good rides. What more could you want? Would it be higher on your list if Expedition Everest was completed?
1. Animal Kingdom (excellent theming/atmosphere)
2. Magic Kingdom ( vast collection of tame but interesting rides)
3. MGM Stduios ( I like the coaster and T.O.T but thats about it)
4. EPCOT ( Nothing to do except read about different cultures and look at exhibits; a big waste of my money and time, I won't be going here again)

But would it be higher on your list? I bet you wouldn't just ride E.E once. I think you would go back on it again and again. But that's my opinion. It should really add something to the park. Walking into the Asia section and seeing this huge mountain.

It wouldn't move it no. I can ride a ride 3 times in a row by using fast pass well, so yes, I will ride it multiple times but it isn't enough to move it up my list.

How do you like MGM Studios better? I think of that as a half day park and EPCOT also. And I read on a site that there are people who think of Animal Kingdom as a half day park because all they look for are thrill rides and then there are people who appreciate it for its details in theming and perfection.

I love everything about MGM. Other than RnRC and ToT, there is Fantasmic, Beauty and the Beast, Who wants to be a Millionaire, One Man's Dream, Muppets, Indiana Jones, Backlot Tour, learning to draw a character. The street performers! They're one of my favorite aspects of MGM. Lights! Motors! Action! Is AMAZING! The Great Movie Ride! I can go on and on.
You need to remember that everyone has his/her own opinion and reasons for liking what parks they like. I know that Breeze likes nothing more than spending a day wandering around the World Showcase at Epcot. I know that Mister E loves doing TOT and RnRC back to back to back and having a cinnamon roll at Staring Rolls at MGM. I know that Johnie loves MGM and wandering around, taking everything in. Everyone has their favorites, and their reasons for them. They may or may not agree with your opinion of AK.

I agree but why do people not like Animal Kingdom?:( It really is an excellent park and thats not just speaking for myself. All I've seen on this board are people dissing it and saying how its not worth it and that it's a half day park. I would definetly spend a whole week at Animal Kingdom. There's just so much to do that 1 day wouldn't be enough. I enjoy walking through and admiring all the details that went into the rides(Expedition Everest), queues(Kali River Rapids) and surroundings (like the dragon rock that blows fire). Also as soon as you enter the Oasis (think AK's Main Street) you're greeted by a wonderful experiece to the senses. But hey, if you don't like nature, go to EPCOT and look at high tech stuff or go on kiddie rides in Magic Kingdom.
Johnie

No need to take it personally. That just means there is less people there so you can enjoy it more. I think a lot of people don't like it due to the heat and how it just seems more hotter there than at any of the other parks. Also lots of people think it's a glorified zoo and don't see the point.

Vote for Splash mountain here - feel it is the most 'complete' ride experience out there.
Will reserve judgement on EE until it is open but it does look awesome - however feel it is a shame that they felt the need to put a thrill ride in there at all . I love AK - but I love it for the theming and the tranquility.
Tree of life is a beautiful thing to behold and is probably my most favourite piece of disney architecture ever.
Dinoland USA and the fun fair bit are a different case though.

Have to agree with Donna but to a degree..well I want to agree with John AND Donna..
First...best themed ride..hands down..Splash Mountain.
But I was waiting for someone to come up with KRR! It is themed awesomely (is that a word:unsure: ). So much there in the cue line! A CM told me of how the ceiling of the bird cage was actually painted by some 65 year old tibetan monk. KRR is THE premire rapid ride anywhere! Love the rain forest feel, the temples, tiger growls,, and a little eco lesson there with the clear cutting! Just fantastic!

I still think it's Expedition Everest because from looking at it from other areas of the park, it looks even more majestic then the outside of Splash Mountain. But I'll have to wait till it opens until I can comment on the inside, even though there are some pictures of the broken track and the inside of the fortress on the left side of the mountain.

You won't pay money to go to a place, where you can learn about different cultures, and different technologies. But, you will pay money to go to a place that is too big, has few rides, and has theming that you can find at any, local park, and that would be free? Interesting. Plus, everyone is always waiting for AK to become more popular. It is supposed to happen, every year, yet it never does. It is not a destination park. It's a place to go, if you have done everything else. It will probably never be anything more than that.

Theming at a local park doesn't even compare to Animal Kingdom. Besides the way you're talking, you make it seem like people can just go to your local library to learn about technology and people. How can you say that it will never be good. You don't know what Disney is capable of. Anyways, its a new park and will take time to expand. EPCOT and MK weren't the best when they first opened so give AK time. Sheesh.

Coaster, why are you so obssessed with, A) Animal Kingdom, and B) A ride that is not even open, that you can't even see, completely, yet?
Most people do not have AK on the top of their list. It's just not that great of a park. And, no one knows how this new ride is going to affect it, yet. My feeling is that it will have a minimal impact. Because, once you get off the ride, you still have a sub-standard park to deal with. Who would want to pay that much money, for that?
I think my point, about AK, has been made over and over again, by several people, in this thread. So, please, enjoy AK. If you like it, more power to you.

My favorite thrill ride at WDW is Tower of Terror. The theming is awesome and the ride itself is phenomenal. It's also the only ride I've ever been nervous to ride. I thought we all stood in the elevator  and was concerned about myself crashing to the floor.

Is your map the same as the one on the website? Can't they just put the Expedition Everest on the map and say "coming in 2006!"?

Is the mountain part of E.E complete yet? How does it look? Is it tall? Which one looks better? The Hollywood Tower or Mt. Everest, considering they're the same height.

The mountain part of EE is definitely taking shape...they have the snow on it, and it looks like a mountain  There is still scaffolding cages here and there...but it certainly looks on track to open in April...
As far as which looks better... I guess I'd have to go with ToT...maybe because I'm partial to it...or maybe because, to me, EE just looks like another mountain (a la SM and BTM). The size doesn't really doesn't impress me. In fact, I think it truly detracts from the beauty that is AK, and distracts from my favorite icon, the Tree of Life.
I guess my opinion is that I don't *go* to Disney World for thrill rides...it's something all together different...When I "feel the need for speed" I visit IOA or a local Six Flags...Disney does a LOT of things really well (heck, that's why I visit a gazillion times a year) but "thrill rides" isn't their niche (and neither should it be, IMO). Now, before everyone jumps on me, I'm not saying they don't *have* thrill rides...I love ToT and RnRC...but...I don't think they should indulge in this "competition" to have the biggest coasters...I think they should stick to what they do best, create magic.

 I agree with what you said MM
I really like AK, but I think this "mountain" just seems out of place there... and its supposed to be like a rainforest.... why is there snow?
uscwest
October 13th, 2005, 19:46
Actually mari, only a small part of AK is intended to be even remotely like a rain forest. The Kilimanjaro Safari in Africa is named after Mount Kilimanjaro which most definitely is not in a rain forest. Expedition Everest is supposed to imitate being in the Himalayas and going after Yeti on Mount Everest which most assuredly is snow capped, in fact I believe year round.

October 13th, 2005, 20:26
oh!
Well thanks for correcting me, I had no idea... I just thought it represented different areas of Asia and Africa, and with the heat it feels like a rainforest...

Can more people comment on which design looks better(T.O.T VS E.E)?
Whitequeen
October 13th, 2005, 21:35
Coasterfan, how can we comment on something that isn't finished? We haven't been on it, most of us haven't seen it lately. We'll have more comments to make when it's open.:D

October 13th, 2005, 21:38
Yes, but a lot of us haven't seen that for a while either. How can we compare something that's finished and open with something that's not finished and nobody has been on yet.

October 13th, 2005, 21:44
Fine....then let's talk about T.O.T
wdwgrandma
October 13th, 2005, 21:47
A comment on design is just as subjective... If you prefer the look of old creepy buildings, well, maybe you prefer the design of ToT or HM. If you like the looks of snow topped mountains, that will probably be your choice. I've seen EE several times in it's earliest phases of construction and it looked like a mountain being built with a roller coaster inside - think BTMRR, or SM, or even the Matterhorn at DL.

Can aybody tell me the details of the ride? Like is it one big drop or several helixes and small drops? And how can it do the drop backwards?
marivigi
October 13th, 2005, 23:55
No one can tell you details because:
1. it has not been opened, so no one has ridden it
2. no specific information has been released
3. no one here works in the construction of the ride, and even if someone did, they wouldnt be able to tell us about it, until it has opened.
Sorry

This is the only information released from Disney yet on Expedition Everest http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/atexev.html
As soon as any more press releases come along I will post the information on the site.
Personally I don't believe you can compare a tower to a mountain and say which you like best. They are two totally different structures. That's just MHO

So far, Disney's largest coaster would be California Screamin right? But the whole theme of California Adventure feels like a carnival to me. Not really top notch theming in my opinion.
