Enough with the lame sequels already!! - now we are told they are doing Cinderella 3!! - Happily ever after means just that! so let is rest
What the upper echelons of the Disney organisation must realise is that their corporate success was based around an innovative and respected animation company.
This I am afraid to say, is no longer the case - the last good Disney film was probably Tarzan ( or Mulan) can't remember which was last, Treasure Planet was good and underrated but still not special. Disney films are supposed to touch you inside and bring a lump to your throat. The recent efforts have been very poor in that respect.
So it has come to this, the eternal sequels that are being pumped out . Standing on the shoulders of animation giants to try and eek out a few more dollars from the franchise. These sequels do not add to they diminish from the original presentations.
I am a huge animation fan and feel let down by the company. They have lost their way
I only hope they come good again - but it will mean going back to basics.
First find the story, there are millions out there waiting to be told :(

I agree that Disney have lost their way over the last decade, but I also understand how much straight to DVD can bring in income wise.
Disney animation future is with Pixar, and CGI with the occasional classic hand drawn animation thrown in the mix.
I think with the changes at Disney and positive PR being generated at the moment, especially with the ABC deal with Apple. That Disney will be producing or distributing great things over the coming decade.
Disney has been mishandled over the last few years due to petty squabbling but I do think that is now well and truly over...
Go DISNEY :ears:

How I agree with you, I've thought the same thing for quite a while about sequels. In my mind the great stories should be left alone, in particular the old classics like Cinderella. Like you say there are plenty more stories out there waiting to be told which we all know Disney would do a fabulous job on.

I do agree with you Chris, but they bring them out and we all feel we MUST have them. All the time they can make the money they'll keep chucking them out, I suppose.
As you say, there are some worthy stories out there.:)

I completely agree that PIXAR are producing excellent films - very Disneyesque - but they aren't Disney - and disney is pumping out stuff like Chicken Little.
You don't need whizzy graphics and explosions - you need a good story.
I do hope you are right Orlando-Sky - but to get back in front they need to stop living on past success'. There is now some serious competition out there who frankly at the moment do it better.

Agree wholeheartedly Chris, its sad to see that Disney animation has kinda lost its way in recent years. Pixar you could argue are now ahead of Disney as the leading animation studio and have carried Disney along with their success for a while. Now that they're soon to part company, it'll be interesting to see how Disney cope without them. If re-visiting former classics and creating straight to dvd sequals which i would agree, detracts from the uniqueness of its original, is the best they can come up with then there will be worrying times ahead. Hopefully though, being forced to return to their roots might just give Disney the focus it needs to return to doing what it used to do best.

I agree to a degree. I loved Lilo and Stitch and the animation in it

Lilo and Stitch was Ok but it was not the sort of film I can see people watching in 70 years time like Snow White

Just watched that last night actually :hehe: Its pretty good, an enjoyable 70 odd minutes. The stitch ride makes a bit more sense now :D That said, id say its a film thats very much for the younger generation and doesnt really have a universal appeal thats likely to make it a family classic. To me, it seemed a bit jumbled and rushed. It also lacked that crucial Disney ingrediant, an original musical score. The animation was good but probably no better than most of the 'sequal' movies which sadly gives it that 'cartoon-like' feel :(

There is something to be said about the animation vs comp. I love the comp and how real it is, but its just... that, too real. animation is so breath taking in so many ways

Walt Disney never wanted to do sequels. He was asked to many times, but he didn't believe in them.
Sequels are fine to a degree, but enough is enough. It's like they've run out of stories or just gotten lazy.
