We are heading to WDW 1/1 and want to give our boys luggage for X-mas so they can pack for their trip, etc. We'd really like Disney luggage, but it's too expensive and doesn't really meet our needs so we thought about buying a cheap suitcase and doing an iron on or an applique. I'm not crafty, so if this isn't possible, please tell me! :) Otheriwse, if you know where I can go about getting these, it'd be helpful. I went to our craft stores, but no luck. Thanks!

The only hiccup I see with doing this is that cheap suitcases, well, suitcases in general, are made out of vinyl or a combination of polyester and other plastics. Doing an iron on applique might melt the suitcase itself before the applique actually gets applied.

I'm sure it can be done but carefully. Some iron-on patches are actually made out of fabric so maybe you can sew them on.

Here are a few links I found, I just did a search for "disney iron-on" and "disney iron-on patches" on Google.

JoAnn ETC had some Disney fabrics about two months ago--haven't had time to go shopping in a while!

If you go this route, you would need to purchase some lightweight, non-woven (Pellon is one brand) fusible interfacing and press it on to the back of the image to be used, extending about 1/4". Pressing is a vertical movement (pick up the iron and set it down), rather than ironing, which is moving the iron horizontally over the fabric. Believe it or not, technique can make a big difference!

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for heat and time. Protect both your ironing surface and iron (scrap of fabric, old sheet/pillow case/man's handerkerchief, etc.).

Cut out the image. The interfacing will keep the fabric from fraying while you're working with it.

Purchase some type of non-heat activated adhesive that will bond to fabric and vinyl. You'll have to read the labels--I don't know what's out there these days! Follow the manufacturer's instructions (including drying time!), being sure to seal the edges of the fabric.

Do a test in an inconspicuous area on the bag. Perhaps the bottom? It will need to have the same properties as the area you will applique

I'm a bit late on this I guess, but maybe you could get some heavy duty fabric glue to stick on your appliques? I wonder, like SM, if ironing on would melt the suitcase...
