Dreamer, I think people have been using their brains like this for a long time. I blame the local spelling issues more recently on the methods of writing our school was using (have since changed) and on txt spk.

I'm glad you don't use it though! I have enough of a hard time translating British around here... :hehe:

text speak is crazy. I used to go to the CBBC message boards before they would only let me post when it was open (due to time differences, I had to stop), and most of it was text talk. It was insaine ex. h! d3r Anyone want to guess?

Excuse me ...:hmph: :D

I blame spell check on computers, you don't worry so much about misspelling because you know it will (usually) be picked up.

Would that be 'hello dear?' If not, I don't know what that is!! I can usually figure it out.

A looooonnnng time ago, I learned in one of my communication classes, that the burden of effective communication lies on the one communicating. The one receiving the message shouldn't have to work, decode, nothing. Text speak takes all the responsibility off the communicator, and onto the recipient, and causes a lot more problems than missed spelling, methinks. It's going to be interesting to see how this generation of teens makes it through adulthood, or if they change the way communications are made.

Tricky, I try. :D One reason I love working with the Brits. I'll do anything for a phone call to hear an accent. :D

LOL I was looking at this post thinking "wow, that looks familiar!" No wonder! I did post this a while back. It is amazing, tho, that it is so readable even with all the words scrambled the way they are!
