I know many of you have made t-shirts for different occassions...I was hoping to do the same for dd's birthday during our trip, only I've never actually done it. I would appreciate any advice/suggestions so I can learn from your mistakes :hehe: instead of my own!
Also, I found a few pictures on line I can "borrow" for the shirt, but I don't absolutely love any of them...
Thanks!

So, no one has made t-shirts?

I've made shirts! I don't know how I missed this thread.
I found a picture I liked and then used Photoshop to add text and change characters. It was pretty easy and I'm not the least bit creative.
You can also go over on a very large Disney board and there is a whole slew of people willing to make shirt designs for you, for free.

Thanks, Johnie! Are the do-it-yourself photo transfers easy to use? And do they come out halfway decent? Do you have any idea which kind you used? I think that's what I'm most worried about...
I have a pretty good idea what I'd like to put on it...she's not a girly-girl and is very into sports, so I'm thinking about getting a baseball shirt and putting the number 10 on the back (since it's her 10th birthday!) and then putting a cool picture and writing 'It's my birthday' on the front... just nervous about those transfers!

I bought the transfers at Wal-Mart. They were for light colored shirts. Very easy to use and the pictures turned out much better on the shirts than they looked on the paper. If your unsure about them, try one out on an old shirt. I think Avery is the brand name.

Ok, I try to avoid Walmart like the plague, but it's for a good cause! (I may have to try Target first!)...
Thanks for your help!

Target should carry them as well. They are in the paper (notebooks, pens, etc) aisle.

If not at Target head to an office store :) I used one of Johnie's designs and made bags for the girls on the trip

Donna has also made t-shirts several times. However, she hasn't been on here much over the holidays, with the grandkids in town.

I've made a ton of t-shirts for the wedding. First one didn't go too well. I think I left the iron on it too long and it went a funny colour
All the ones since have turned out really well, can't wait for everyone to wear them! :bounce:
I used two different types of paper, one I got from a computer store here (PC World) I'm not keen on, the transfer part on the t-shirt is more stiff than the other I used which I got on ebay.
With both I discovered I didn't need to leave the iron on it or press on as hard as it says in the instructions. I also used an ironing board which it says not too - I didn't have any other suitable hard surface to use
I'd say to do your first one on a practice piece of fabric rather than wasting a good t-shirt.
After I'd done the design I left it over 24hrs then washed them by hand. On a few I've ironed on Swarovski crystals in certain places which look fantastic

Swarovski crystals - that sounds beautiful - how did you do that?

Ok, so I just added the finishing touches to DD's t-shirt...glitter paint and rhinestones...

The shirt is actually white...just not a great photo. DS's shirt has Goofy on roller skates and says, "If I seem a little Goofy it is because today's my sister's birthday!" Ok, have to confess, I "borrowed" from a website I found...but I'm not selling them, right?
