I know there are going to be loads and loads of Disney things that I know I am going to HAVE to buy. But I absolutely love traditional bears (the jointed proper teddy bear type).
For the last 4 years my husband has come over to America to watch a football game and each year I have instructed him to buy me a jointed bear - I have a very tackey "I love New York" bear, and last year got a lovely bear from Washington with Smithsonion on, but I really wanted one which was noticably American or with Washington on or something.
Will I be able to find traditional bears that aren't like the New York one (which I am sure he got with a McDonalds Happy Meal), something which says Florida or Orlando on?

I've never seen a jointed teddy bear except what my grandma still has from her childhood. I'm sure they're available somewhere but it's not a typical thing.

Boyd Bears are jointed, but I never saw one that said Disney or Orlando . You could probably find a patriot Boyd Bear at the Florida Mall .

Your probably going to have to go to a specialty craft store or maybe even a Hallmark store to find jointed bears. You might be able to buy a shirt with Orlando or Florida for the bear to wear. I know you can get the shirts at the Florida Mall Build a Bear store

My mother collects bears too. Of any kind. She loves them. Her spare bedroom is being overrun with them. I recommend the specialty stores as well, that's where my father buys most of the ones that he gets.

That sounds good the Florida Mall Build a bear store. Will have to put that on my "to visit" list. Is that anywhere near I Drive?

It's closer to I Drive than Disney. I'd say it's about 5-6 miles from I Drive.

Doesn't one of the shops in MK have the jointed bears created by Marie Osmond? They are really very nice - they remind me of Steiff bears in elaborate victorian costumes. The ones I have seen were themed for Christmas, but it was a few years ago and they might not be around any longer.

But ... what about a WDW Winnie-the-pooh? They are not jointed, but they are classic disney magic!

But isn't Winnie the Pooh English?

Have Winnie at my husbands side, and have Eyeore at my side, and Koda on the dressing table. But I love the traditional tatty jointed teddy bears.

I think the German Pavillion at Epcot have jointed bears that you can have in costumes etc. made to your requirements, may not be what you're looking for but thought i'd give it a mention anyways:wink:

Hey that sounds good. My husband comes to America every year to watch an American football game with my dad. I tell him a jointed bear hopefully in some way indicating where he is from. He got my one from New York with an "I love New York" t shirt on, but it was so tacky I am sure he got it from a happy meal at McDonalds!!!
Last year he went to Washington and brought a lovely Bear back, it didn't say Washington but it had Smithsonian jumper on.
But that in Epcot sounds just up my street - thanks I'll put that on my list of places to watch out for.

Can you get bears in the German pavillion in Epcot? That's ringing a bell here but perhaps I imgained it.

I am sure the Steiff Bears are German, so Epcot seems like a good bet, there is also a nice toystore in Celebration which should be along the right lines of collectable bears
