puzzle for the grey matter

A guy moves into a house he has just bought, on closer inspection of the house he finds something amiss, but rather than make a fuss with the previous owner he decides to rectify the problem himself with a visit to a DIY store.
He buys two which cost him £4, and ten which cost him £8, what did he buy?:wink:
