Use Year?

We're seriously considering buying into DVC...so much so that DH went to SS on the last morning of our trip to check it out, hear about the financing and tour the resort. Our use year it seems would be August, which I don't quite understand since we're in January now - but, did you choose to buy during a certain month to get the use year you wanted or did you just buy when you were ready to buy?

We bought late November 2005 and we were told we could have a use year back dated to June or September or the coming December. As we don't tend to have preferences to where we take our holidays we decided to go for June as this was in the middle of the year and also as we were going to WDW in January 2006 we could utilise the 2005 points.

I bought when I was ready with no thought for the use year, which for me is Feburary. DCfromVA has a much more thorough explanation for the importance of use years though. If she doesn't come along to this thread, I'm sure it'd be ok for you to send her a PM and ask her opinion on the matter! :)

Thanks! We spoke to our DVC rep last night and questioned him on UY...he was able to give us an October UY!

Ok, so we spoke to our DVC rep this afternoon...and dh asked about banking points...we have until the end of March to bank 100% of our October 2005 points, but we don't close on the deal until April 1, so...how does that work?

Usually, you can bank a percentage once the 100% deadline has passed. However, don't hesitate to ask about banking the points, given the closeness of the dates. (All the points I mean).

You don't intend to use any points in the same calendar year that you purchase your DVC?

We're not really sure about using points this year, since we've just been last month...Plus we're getting Oct 05 points now and then more points in Oct 06...I will definitely call about banking the points by the end of the month if that's the way we decide to go...I need to get a better handle on the whole banking/borrowing thing!
