I was trying to remember if you get free parking as a DVC member, even if you are not staying onsite. I may go visit and stay with my dad and still decide to go to the park for a day. Can I show my DVC card and get parking for free or do you only get that if you are staying onsite. It doesn't matter too much, but I was trying to look it up and now I am just curious. Thanks.

DVC are entitled to free parking, but only at DVC resorts such as the Boardwalk etc.
You still have to pay like everyone else at the parks and at most resorts.

I didn't know that DVC members had to pay to park. Wow.

I think what Terry means is being a DVC member doesn't entitle you to park free if you are staying off-site. Members don't have to pay parking if they are staying anywhere onsite and get free valet at the DVC resort they are staying at.

So if you are a DVC member and staying on-site you can park at the parks for free? What about if you rent points?

Yes, anyone staying on-site, either by renting points or paying cash, gets free parking.:)

Anything that says that you have to be a DVC member to get, free parking, previews, etc., I've always shown my DVC member card, whether staying with points or not, and have never been questioned.
Once you show your regular DVC card, a CM's immediate answer should be "Welcome Home". Questioning you if you are staying with with points or not would not be very welcoming, right?
If you are renting points, your KTTW cards will say that you are staying as a DVC member or guest, you will also have your car pass, so you will not have to pay for theme park parking.

When we rented points our cards said we were DVC members...we didn't bother correcting them, because we didn't do anything where it made a difference...

I must be confused then. Maybe it was the AP holders who get parking without being onsite? All the perks blend together and I can't keep them straight.

AP holders get free parking wherever they stay, on-site/off-site.

it all depends on how creative you want to use the term Free
If staying off property and want to go to the MK just go to wilderness lodge & valet for free take the boat over and it just costs a tip for the valet
once parked you can take the bus anywhere as well verse paing for the parking
