DH and I are about to close on our DVC membership! If you go thru Disney, they are only selling Saratoga Springs right now...if you want another resort thru them, you can wait for a resale, but from what I hear, they are few and far between. Do you have a resort that you are interested in? We loved the Beach Club, but didn't want to do a resale so we bought SSR.
There is an advertiser here, called The Timeshare Store, who do resales privately.
Good luck!

Hi Dazzamo and first of all a very warm welcome to the site.
As stated by 2J`sMom, many of the resorts are now sold out...thank heavens we took the plunge way back in 1992 when there was only OKW to choose from!
Remember though that you can stay at any of the resorts with your points, although your "home resort" will enable you to take advantage of certain unique privileges like an extended booking window etc. etc.., so don`t let this put you off if you want to proceed.
Hopefully, we`ll be able to say "Welcome Home" to you soon.

Hi - We are also looking into buying into DVC, especially when we found out how reasonable it is. Has anyone from the UK bought from the Timeshare Store and could you tell me if the whole process is easy. Many Thanks

Having Done Some Research, And Having Received A Phone Call From Disney, We Have Decided To Buy Direct From Disney As There Are Appers To Be No Hidden Admim Costs.

Hi I have bought resale from a different agent, but just wanted to say the process is very easy, We have made good friends with our agent and we have just sent the deposit for our second DVC contract.( within 3 weeks of closing our first) If you want any specific details just PM me. Basically, just choose your fave resort, decide on the number of points you and your family will need and then phone or email the agent and discuss the best price to offer for the points. I have been lucky enough to find contracts with banked points and so my first holiday is effectively free as we have 334 points to use up. If you need to know more, and I'm sure you do, then ask away. Ian

Hi Dazzamo

The admin costs are not really hidden, you are told how much the maintenance costs are for the following year and how much closing costs are. I chose BWV because we love Epcot and the Boardwalk area, We have had 5 holidays around DTD and have now decided to move on-site as it where! I was happy to pay $525 closing costs to get the resort I wanted. So after your deposit, closing, maint and the balance, the only costs are what your UK bank charges to wire money over to the States £8 in my case plus $20 at the other end. I have paid $86 per point for BWV what is SSR going for now? I hope this doesn't sound too serious it wasn't meant to. :D Ian

You can avoid these charges if you pay your annual dues by cc.

We had to pay these charges (Maint) to the resale agent as far as I know as part of the resale contract. We will be paying maint by Virgin double miles card next year though.
