Can anyone give me some info on which company/ companies are best for renting scooters while at WDW. My Mother has 3 kinds for Arthritis and Fibro myalgia. I've looked at the ones that have links here on the site but I'm curious as to personal experience. I also found a site for a Orlando Scooter Rentals does anyone know if this company is good or not as there wasn't a link to it on this site but it was a little cheaper then care. Also if anyone knows if medical insurance might cover some of the rental too that would be helpful. Any info would help. Thanks!

I know a few of our members here have used them on several occasions and described their experience. You might just do a quick search with the word ECV or scooter and see what comes up. I know Whitequeen became quite profecient in them over the years :D

WQ recommended Randy's Mobility to us when we went w/MIL 2 yrs ago, and they were wonderful...
Dropped off the scooter at our hotel in the morning and picked it up before we left. I don't know if their info is posted on here, but if not let me know, I could probably dig it up.

We used Walker Mobility. They were wonderful. Do a search for Walker Mobility. I think when I checked they were the cheapest. I think it was $30 a day. It was at the Contemporary when I checked in at midnight. But I wasn't charged for the day it spent waiting for me to get there. I started paying for it the next full day.

I have never rented a scooter before, but need to in January for my Mom. Does anyone know if the scooters will fit inside a regular room (as opposed to a handicapped room) at the Polynesian? Also, can they be used on the monorail? Thanks.

Can't help you with the room, but I'd bet they fit.
They can easily be used on the Monorail. The person doesn't even have to get off the scooter.

You could probably leave a scooter outside your room at the Poly and plug it in to charge overnight in the hallway, but it would definately fit inside the room.

We saw quite a lot of people doing just that at the GF this year - including a lovely chap who was in the room next door.

i might have to have one if i can go next year, it depends on how my meds shape up, so a quick Q, how much are they to rent?

Thanks for your help! Noone bothered the scooters when they were in the hallway? Does anyone know if the Hawaiin building has elevators or do I need to ask for a 1st floor room? It seems like I read or heard somewhere that some of the buildings did not have elevators. (or maybe I dreamed that!) :)

We used Randy's Mobility last trip and have reserved with them again for our upcoming trip. We managed to fit ours into our room at ASMovies, so I'm sure you could easily fit it in at the Poly.

We used Walker Mobility. Site is http://www.walkermobility.com/ We got one heavy duty one for around $250 for a week. It was sitting in the lobby of OKW when we arrived to check in and we dropped it off there on the way out. Be sure that whatever room you get has elevator, ramp or is on the ground floor. Building 62 in OKW has an elevator. We also got the sun shade for an extra $20. THAT was WAY worth it as there isn't always shade handy. It also tuned out to be rather weather resistant though the openness wouldn't help in a downpour, it did help in light sprinkles we had. Walker givs you an 800# to call and they will bring you an new scooter if anything happens to yours, doesn't matter where you are, they will bring it TO you. We didn't need it as ours performed flawlessly.
Not all transportation can take ECVs. WD Railroad and most of the water launches can NOT take one but can take un-powered wheelchairs. ALL busses and monorails DO take them as does the ferry boat from TTC to TMK. Most rides don't take them directly but provide an unloading area where you transfer from your scooter to the ride. Cast members will park it for you and return it to where you unboard the ride. Most rides have a wheelchair line that will allow you and your party to stick together in nearly every circumstance.
Don't over estimate the size of the basket on the front. Its quite small as you can see in this photo:

I installed a "trunk" on the scooter (or I guess you UK folks call it a boot?). I brought a dufflebag along that has a sholder strap. The strap unsnaps at both ends. I then wrapped the sholder strap around the seat back's support rods (one on each side) and then snapped the duffle to it. The bag sat comfortably against the back ot the scooter. We also draped the kids's poncho's over it to keep it dry. This provided us with plenty of storage for water bottles, snacks and purchased items we didn't want to have to carry. If you are worried about security of things in it, bring one of your luggage locks to lock the zipper.
As for battery charge, the thing lasts forever. We weren't sure the first day so we took the charger along to the park figuring we could get a quick charge at one of the baby stations. It was dumb, leave it in the room. We found out (by accident) that you can go several full days without charging. We found this out when at some point the switch on the charger got to the OFF position, either by kids or adults, not sure which. The scooter started slowing down on the third day (we thought Maryann was being nice and not making us chase her). Once she said something to me, I looked at things and found the charger's switch off, flipped it on and charged overnight and we were again running to chase her down again.
