I have over 80 pins in my collection. I haven't bothered working out how much they are worth, I remember it was about $150 when there were only 20!

its crazy because I also collect buttons, so in my collection now, I have things that are $1.25-$15! I started collecting thinking it would be cheap... Then I went to DL...

I also got the pin fever d-dreamer a couple of years back . I now have a pin book full of cast member lanyard pins . What I do is this , I go on a pin hunt on ebay and buy lots of trading pins . So far, I've bought 3 lots of 32 pins for under $60.00 . I print out the newest lanyard series and then once I'm at Disney, the hunt is on . It's a heck of alot cheaper than buying traders at WDW .

I want to do that, but my mum is not letting me do Ebay for pins... Afraid I'll spend all of my money, which makes a lot of sense

I'll also be stocking up on a grab bag of pins before we go next year. I've just been to New york and picked up a few though - a nice 4 set of theme park pins ($22 for four), two mickey mouse LE500 jumbo pins (one to keep, one to trade) - they were $25 each, and one minnie jumbo pin, that was $20. That's $92 + tax. Disney love me.

Ebay is addictive for pins d-dreamer so beware! But it is a good place to try to find LOTS good for trading. If you can get a LOT of pins from ebay for around $3 to $4 each it's cheaper than having to go buy brand new pins for $6 to $7 minimum now. They add up SOOOO fast.

Yeah, I know it is, that's what mums worried about...
To cap everything, I just got an email from the online disney store for 20% off, that means pins at a decent price ><

I don't even want to know how much money I've spent on pins. I could probably buy a car.

For real, Bev ! But I'm still at it . I just bought two lots of 20 total lanyard pins for $49.98 and $3.00 shipping . That isn't bad, $2.50 a pin for cast lanyards and some are from this recent series . :D

And I never find those CM pins! I always find someone's left overs!
We did find some pins that were circulated before being offered for sale. that was cool. And some pin of the month pins. And my Mom once found a Tinkerbell FedEx pin. THAT was her pride and joy.

Hope this message wasn't just for Bev! I just bought a lot off of him. I think $2.79 per pin is an excellent price for traders & boy do we need traders. Thanks so much for posting the link. I just emailed him & asked about combined shipping if I bought another lot.
I have one question, where are these people getting these pins that they can sell them so cheap??? It's always baffled me. I'd love to know!

Oh Tinker, don't even get me started on the "professional" pin traders! They make me so angry. When my oldest was little she collected Piglet pins (actually she still does) & she'd get so excited when she saw one in their books but they would be so insulting about whatever we had to trade & would NEVER trade with her. She would be crushed. The final straw for me was at DTD one day a couple years ago I was going through one of their books & the guy lept up at me & said I was turning the pages too rough. Not my kid, but ME! I was not turning the pages too rough. I went off on him about as much as you can go off on someone at WDW & with your kids watching & listening. That was the point I said I will never waste my time or my kids time even looking at their stuff. We only go to CM's now.
Sorry this is long but Tinker got me on my soapbox!

How do they do it so cheaply? Easily: Sedesma pins. They are cheap pins from malaysia etc that probably cost about $10 for a hundred, the they trade with CM's for real pins. PinPics doesnt allow posting / trading of these pins, and you'll get some dirty looks from CM's who know what they're doing, but at the moment, I think they're obligated to trade. I've never had one of these pins, but I have seen some fake ones.
Yeah. Fake disney pins. Some people ruin everything!

I actually traded with one of those Career Pin Traders...once. We both came off with great deals...I had a one of a kind pin that I didn't really want, and she had a CM DCL pin that I really really wanted. But in truth, most of them are vultures...it's true.

You're kidding me!:nono: Are they fakes, like copies of actual real pins or are they just Disney pins that are not like the ones in the park? I'm now afraid I'm buying cheap knockoffs.
It makes sense I guess as to why they could sell them so cheap. If you look up pins on ebay though you will see tons of ebayers that have hundreds of pins for sell all the time. Most are pins I do recognize from WDW & are still on the card! How are they doing it I wonder? Do you think shoplifting is a problem?

I have (unfortunately) purchased copies off ebay before. There is a set of 4 surfbaord pins I want. The Mickey one looks like this:
http://www.pinpics.com/img/p758/pin37931
theres a donald, goofy, and pluto pin in the set too. They were a surprise release, and limited editions of 500. I bought the whole set off one person. When they came, the side of the mickey one was really scratched and you could see it was sorta plasticy, the sharp pin part was loose, and it was spelt 'surppise' - my beloved pin pics helped me realise these were fake. I contacted the seller and he said he didn't realise, but when I pointed out he was selling four sets he quickly amended his listings to mention the spelling of surppise (he didn't outright mention that they were fake though). I got all my money (shipping included) back.
The guys that sell the grab bags / trader bags will probably be using the sedesma pins themselves to obtain real pins from cm's (or, as you suggested, theft may be a problem) - thats how they keep their feedback at 100%. Most pins on ebay are real, they're the only fake ones I've ever seen. The ones with the black plastic backing etc - you want pin a), trader tells you to go buy a pin of the month (or 'any $8.95' pin). you wouldn't put it on your lanyard, would you? you just give it to them as you bought it - with the backing. Be REALLY aware of people that ask you for the receipts - apparently thats a big no-no.
And of course, stay away from the pins that are coming from Thailand etc!!

I got one set of my pins from the originally posted ebay guy yesterday & they are wonderful. I'm very happy. Don't seem to be fakes. Problem now is we all want to keep half of them & I bought them for traders!

Are buttons the same as pins?.
Nope...buttons are big, round and metal....pins are smaller with more detail. Folks aren't really collecting buttons...except me I think...I try to find them on Castmembers. But pins are the big thing.

I hear yah Ducky! I'm into the old scrapbooking too (although I do cards more than sb'ing)
I've heard that there's a scrapbooking shop in downtown Disney - I'm rediculously excited about it! :excited:
I've told my family that they can leave me in there for a few hours and go do something else!
Tell me - is it really expensive in there?

There are a few of them around, it's a popular crafting store. Michaels.com will point you in the direction of the closest store  Sunday papers usually have a coupon for 40% off a single item

Is it the local sunday papers or the nationals?
