Just a thought, we will be at WDW for the first 2 weeks of the World Cup, we will see England play their first game a couple of days before we fly out.

Can anyone recommend a good venue to catch the games - possibly live!

will they show them anywhere on Disney property?:)

Probably at ESPN at the Boardwalk and All Star Cafe at the DWWS, cannot think of any other place right now...

The English/Irish pubs around the 192 and I-drive show them, or least used to :uppy:

My DB watched Euro 2004 matches at a TGI Fridays (?) sports bar on I-Drive somewhere methinks  Think they had to pay an entrance fee of some sort though.

Can't stand him. Don't know much about football so can't comment on his skills though.

Can't stand him. Don't know much about football so can't comment on his skills though.

He plays at 100% all the time which is probably why he comes over like he does. If he can avoid getting sent off he can win us the World Cup by himself.

must've missed that

Wasn't missed in Liverpool and it was printed on the anniversary of Hillsborough.

ukwdwnut

what did he do wrong

triciacarole
April 8th, 2006, 20:05
I don't know if you are aware of the lies that were printed about Liverpool fans at the Hillsborough disaster in the Sun, this has resulted in great dislike of the newspaper in Liverpool. Rooney sold his story to this paper despite coming from Liverpool himself and to rub salt into the wound it was printed on the anniversary of the disaster.

ukwdwnut
April 8th, 2006, 20:06
just done a search and cant find anything, not aware of lies from them, what did they say?

triciacarole
April 8th, 2006, 20:09
Its too deep Mike, don't really want to put it up here.

ukwdwnut
April 8th, 2006, 20:10
found it, just reading it

triciacarole
April 8th, 2006, 20:21
Hope it makes things a bit clearer for you Mike, DH was there and was helping to rescue people like many others were too.

ukwdwnut
April 8th, 2006, 20:23
what a grotesque thing to print, on such a very sad day, i think the apology should have been on the front page seeing as the headline was and not inside, probablt in a very small box too :nono:

JasonC
April 8th, 2006, 20:57
I remember the Sun printing all the despicable things about Hillsborough and Liverpool fans it was bang out of order TC.

And I also agree with the comments about Rooneys' girlfriend although I believe she now has a column in some magazine or other so she is actually earning some of her keep, I believe she has an allowance of £100K per month:blush:

With reference to actually watching the footie whilst at WDW I think the ESPN sounds brilliant as we are staying at Pop Century, I will probably record the games however I don't think I will go through the full 2 weeks without finding out the results:shrug:

Never mind COME ON ENGLAND - COME ON ENGLAND:thumbs:

JasonC
April 8th, 2006, 21:01
What a shame they haven't got a TV at the Rose and Crown for the World Cup - come to think of it they could have one in Germany, Italy, Denmark oh heck why not have one in each country as the tournamnet is a World Showcase anyway:D

triciacarole
April 8th, 2006, 21:08
Are you taking a laptop with you? I wonder if you could get the game on that .

JasonC
April 8th, 2006, 21:11
I think if I took my laptop with the World Cup in mind my DW would skin me alive, however if we just happen to amble into ESPN on the day of a game at the specific time that they are about to kick off I may just get away with it:lol:

triciacarole
April 8th, 2006, 21:16
Give her a compromise, tell her she can go to the beauty salon or shopping (if she likes these), or lay by the pool with some cocktails (I'd like that one :D) while you watch the footie

triciacarole

I'm not being cunning, I actually don't like football, DH does. I think I would consider a compromise if I like it, just called being fair :).

April 8th, 2006, 22:33
If Wayne loves his GF and she loves him thats good enough for me. :bigkiss: (But i'm an old romantic at heart) He can buy her what he likes, he can afford it. Why should she go out to work if she doesn't want to especially when he's earning enough to buy a small country!:footy:

JasonC

I was only joking  about a cunning plan

I think if we went out shoppng first, and then I caught the game I think that might be fair too, I'll run that by DW I am sure she'll agree.

Anyway if England are to do as well as everybody is tipping them to I will be home to watch the more important matches. Most important thing in my mind is that we all have a great holiday:thumbs:

triciacarole

Hillsborough was the saddest day for Football I can remember in this country. The Sun printed such lies about it and a mate of mine who is a Liverpool fan still spits venom if you mention that paper in front of him.

700k, jeez what i could do with that :)

Yeah I read that too Mike, don't get me wrong I love my football but the players these days get paid an absolute fortune:(

The 700k Rooney has run up in gambling debts is more than some people would earn in a lifetime it makes me sick to think next season most clubs will put up the ticket prices to compensate for thier massive wage bills - still if Rooney and Co. win the World Cup most people would say they deserve thier mega wages:shrug:

My view is that a Doctor saving lives of a fire fighter putting thier life at risk dragging people out of burning buildings are more deserving of massive wages.

sorry mate cant agree with that, nobody but nobody deserves to earn more in a week than some/most people earn in 5 yrs no way :nono:

even if they do win the world cup

could not agree with that more, especially the fire brigade, who could in every shout they attend there is the possibility that they could risk their lives, i could tell you a few stories that fireman have to endure, and it makes your blood curdle, as my dad was a fireman for 25 years, and why the police earned much more than them and had better perks imo, i cant agree with sorry. although they both do a fantastic job along with the paramedics

It's a Supply and Demand thing, only one or two people in the world can do what Rooney does.

JasonC

It's a Supply and Demand thing, only one or two people in the world can do what Rooney does.

I still don't think it warrants a £5m a year salary plus whatever else he gets from sponsorship endorsements, it obviously shows that he doesn't know what to do with all that money by running up such massive gambling debts:shrug:

And there are possibly only a few great surgeons in the World that are saving lives on a day to day basis and people in the military that are risking thier lives daily to help protect the vunerable and weak, not to mention again fire fighters who have one of the hardest jobs around.

When you put it into context yeah - I love watching football but I think the wage structure in the top leagues is deplorable, my local team are just about to win the Conference.......hopefully and those guys train as much as premiership players and play as many matches but earn less a year than Rooney earns a week!!

The advert in question was made by the milk marketing board to promote the health benefits for kids to drink milk.

it shows 2 little scouse lads dressed in Liverpool kits and 1 is drinking milk, the other says to him "eugh what you drinking that for" to which the other kid replies" 'cos Ian Rush said if I didn't drink my milk every day I'd only be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley" the other kid says"who are they?" to a reply of "Exactly" from the first kid:lol:

I think that's how it went anyway:rotfl:

Thanks a lot for that one Paula, however I doubt I would spend $50-$60 to watch any of the games.

Coconut Willys sounds great though for an afternoon of football:)
