Portable DVD players recalled by Disney
Batteries may overheat and burst.

Posted 9:30am EST Tue Apr 18 2006

After 17 separate reported incidents involving the batteries in certain Disney portable DVD players, the company has decided to recall some 102,000 units. The units were sold between April 2005 and March 2006 at the company's theme parks, through the Disney catalogue, and through general retail stores across North America.

The reason for the recall lies in issues with the battery packs the players use: recharging the units can result in overheating and the possibility of the batteries actually bursting. So far, only skin irritations and property damage have been seen, and the recall looks to prevent further incidents.

The original battery packs were manufactured in China by McNair Technology Co. Ltd and Unitech Battery Ltd. before being distributed by Memcorp Inc based in Florida. Anyone who has an affected unit should contact Memcorp for a replacement battery pack.

The affected players have the following model numbers:
- Princess, DP3500-PRN
- Fairy Flowers, DP3500-FLR
- Mickey Classic, DP3500-MC
- Mickey Mouse, DP3500-MKY
- Power Rangers, DP3500-POW

While they're at, they might want to look at the "Jam Stands" they manufactured for the "Mix Sticks"...The "sticks" are AWESOME, but we've been through 4 "jam stands" since Christmas...and they are complete rubbish...every one of them....I've read several reviews of other's who have had problems with them too....
