View Full Version : A grooms dilemma

Hi folks.
Being a romantic I'd rather not see Pepper in her dress before we get married..
This means that I've got to get changed somewhere else...
(I've no intention of wearing my kilt for a whole day in the Florida heat!)
After speaking to not only the Wilderness Lodge where we are getting married as well as the Animal Kingdom Lodge where we are staying they both say I'll have to get changed in the restrooms...
Call me crazy but getting dressed in a toilet isn't the best romantic start to a wedding.
Can all you guys who have already been married at Disney let me know what you did on the day?
Many thanks
:p

I know Kiltie stayed with his parents but that won't help if you've no one else going.
Have you got anyone else going?

Are any friends or family going with you? Perhaps you could use their room

We stayed at the wilderness lodge for our wedding and they let me use an unbooked room to get dressed in... so I stored the wedding clothes in a suitcase I gave to the luggage guys... left our room in the morning when Helen started getting ready, wandered round a while then got the clothes, got changed in the room, picked up by the limo and the rest is history :)

Who was it you booked your wedding through? We booked ours through Virgin and they supplied another room for me to get ready in

Well I would have preffered to get a room at the Wilderness Lodge but they just seemed so uninterested in helping.
We even considered booking a room - But that's just throwing money away for the sake of a half hour clothing change.
My best maid is staying at Pop Century so I might have to speak nicely to her...
Although she and her husbamd will be getting ready too

Yes, I would definatley talk to whoever planned your wedding. They must have somewhere for you to go. Doesn't sound like they would really let you get ready in the restroom! Keep calling to you get a better answer. They do weddings everyday, this can't be the first time someone asked for somewhere to change.

We're booked through Virgin.
I could give them a buzz but i'm not sure what they could do for me.

Id speak to Virgin, but also speak to the hotel again. Its unreasonable of them to expect someone to get ready for their wedding in the toilets!
My DH went to my Mam and Dad's place to dress, he stayed with Dad while Mam came to me. I don't know if that is an option for you.
Im sure Virgin will sort something for you. If not, try your Disney fairytale wedding coordinator again.

Getting changed in the restroom is just asking for a disaster.

I really feel you should take this up with a manager, Disney are well quoted for being leaders in Total Quality Management as this does go against their company culture and values.

May 11th, 2006, 19:24
Well...
I've contacted Virgin who in turn are going to send an email to The Disney Wedding people...
Back to square one since we asked our co-ordinator first who suggested I shack up with someone else.
This is supposed to be a place of fairytales..
I think Disney is leaking pixie dust somewhere.

:( Thats an awful suggestion you ought to phone Disney and ask how they would like to get changed in a restroom for their wedding im sure the person you spoke to just doesnt know so i would ask to speak to someone in authority hope you can get it all worked out good luck please let us know the outcome

I really think you need to speak to the co-ordinator, stress you are paying a lot of money for this wedding and you chose to get married there because you value them as a company with high customer care standards, they have failed you here expecting you to get changed in the restrooms. Tell them you would appreciate them kindly sorting out the problem by supplying you with a room for a couple of hours so that you can prepare for your wedding the most important day in your life.

Not that I'm going for the sympathy vote or anything...
I was also hoping to pamper myself a tad and get a professional shave done on site...
Disney only have one barber who does shaves and he'll be on vacation at the time!
Can my luck get any worse!?!?
triciacarole
May 11th, 2006, 20:15
I wonder if they do shaves in the barber shop in MK?
Blackeyed
May 11th, 2006, 20:18
Nope...
I asked the co-ordinator who told me that there is one only..
His name is Grady and he works in the salon in the Contemporary Resort.
I spoke to him direct and he also said that he was the only one on Disney property.

LOLOL you two!!! :D
Blackeyed - Disney can't block a room for you in advance, but if you quietly talk to the resort front desk when you arrive, they might be able to assist you.
I heartily suggest heading over to Pop to get ready - that sounds the 'most fun' to me, to get ready with your Best Maid. I know they'll be getting ready too, but it's infinitely more fun to share the memories with someone else, than it is to get dressed in a vacant room all alone. Also, if you inadvertently leave something behind, you can easily go back for it.
What type of wedding have you booked?
Blackeyed
May 11th, 2006, 22:14
Erm...
We've booked a Deluxe Intimate wedding.... I think.
Don't quote me on that.. I'm just a man!

Well folks..
I've returned from work to find a message on my answer phone from Virgin Weddings.
They'll look into my room request once we actually get there.
Although they also suggested that I get changed in the room and then leave to let Pepper get ready...
So what's a guy to do In Disney World for a few hours dressed in a kilt???

Hi Blackeyed,
My wife who is a wedding coordination has the following suggestion, if I may, if you know the husband of your best maid, you could get ready at Pop and she could get ready with your fiancee... girls with the girls and guys with the guys...
Just a suggestion...
Blackeyed
June 5th, 2006, 14:37
Cheers for that Tazfoto.
There's going to be a throng of ladies on the morning so I'm not sure it's viable..
I've spoken to my best maid and asked about using their hotel room...
Thought we'd make a morning of it...
Maybe play some mini golf or hit the boardwalk, then get some lunch and head back to get dressed..
Then they can share the limo with me to the venue.
Let's hope that comes together.
On a good note...
We've finally booked our wedding meal at Citricos! woo-hoo!!

Blackeyed, that sounds absolutely wonderful! I'm so glad you're doing that. And EVERYone is going to go nuts over watching you guys get the limo at Pop. You'll be a celebrity!
Were you the guy looking for the razor shave?
I'm so glad to hear you're at Citrico's! Did you book a regular table or the Chef's Domain?

I'm sure Disney will look after us and our guests... My faith is being restored piece by piece...
Besides, we'll have the added bonus of sitting a romantic dinner at V&A's as a newly married couple.
I'll just have to remember and shave myself on the morning!

Hi Blackeyed,
I was curious so I asked.. and a Disney barber told me that apparently a straight razor is illegal in FL... that was a suprise to me...:) Learned something new.
Just thought i would share.

I wonder what the barber normally uses then. Surely not a regular razor?
