I was wondering, how did you find Florida with asthma??

I have bad asthma, and little things like laughing too hard make me wheezy and chesty for hours... I often find that when I'm abroad I don't give this a second thought and think its down to humidity... I was wondering if Florida was the same? After all, I'm hoping to do a lot of laughing and running about

I had my very first asthma attack in Florida - didn't know what it was at the time and it wasn't too bad but when I got home it was diagnosed straight away and I had never suffered before. Since then I am no worse in Florida than I am here.

I don't know if you do already but I always declare my asthma with my holiday insurance though as you wouldn't be covered if you were taken ill with it out there - I think last time it was about £25 more on the insurance :)

Usually fine

I make sure my asthma is as well managed as possible in the 3/4 weeks before departure and take a course of steriods away with me which I don't usually take but the doc gives just in case so if I do feel less than 100% I can take them and not worry about being ill while away.

Thanks Guys!!

Naturally I'll take my medication with me, and have always declared it on the insurance since I got rushed to hospital twice in 3 days about a year and a half ago - but since its been over a year since I was on steroids it doesn't usually affect the price - well hopefully wont anyway!

My son, daughter and myself all have asthma.(My son's being the most acute) I just make sure that we follow our usual regimine and that we carry our rescue inhalers with us at all times. Know your triggers and take the necessary precautions. For instance one of my sons triggers is dust mites so I make sure to give him Claratin every evening before he goes to bed to try and headoff anything.

Claritin - I'll remember that... Dust mites trigger me off too

I'm allergic to cats as well, so hopefully I won't meet any along the way or it'll be Orlando hospital for me

I have 4 kids with asthma from mild to severe. I have found they have not had any problems but ofcourse we stick to thier daily meds, a supply of steriods just in case and we have a portable nebulizer and we carry that, meds and an epi pen but thankfully never had a probelm. I would tell the CM you must have a pet free smoke free room due to medical issues and if for some reason you get to your room and can smell old fido has been there make them change your room! We have never had a problem with any of the disney resorts with room assignments. I take a note from our peditricain with thier asthma action plan the meds and a breif history that way if you become ill you have it there for the ER doctor.

dawn love the sign in your post :rotfl:

Thanks :)

Do they allow pets at the All Stars?! As I'll call up otherwise and request one without...
I have already requested a non-smoking room when I booked with Virgin, but I'll call them again beforehand to make sure. I hate smoking and the smell anyway, as well as it getting on my chest, so thats one of my no 1s
