Hi
Hello , This forum could well be just what we are looking for in terms of answering our questions .
I know this is early ,but we intend to get married in 2008 at Disney , booking via Virgin , we are having to start early becasue we need to give family as much time as poss to save to come with us . It was our intention to choose August , due to it being school holidays in the UK and we can get the people & kids out with us that we want .
Is this time of year a good idea ?, we've been trying to make head and tail of weather , hurricane and US school holidays for this time and its proving difficult .
Many thanks for any help , im sure there are plently more questions to come .
Cheers

August is at the height of hurricane season. Most kids in the US go back to school anywhere from mid-august to early September. Weather that time of year is hot and humid. Did I mention hot and humid :D

its very VERY hot in summer in florida. just something to consider if you're going to go for a "big" dress.
also i would highly suggest booking the wedding with disney wedding directly. we went through virgin and it was horrendous for us. theyre ok if you just want to stick to the basic package, but if you want to add anything, they generally dont have a clue. feel free to pm me if you need any info from someone whos done it all before!!

Although there are people on here who have booked with Virgin and had a good experience, I've also heard of many that have had bad experiences.
I'd personally recommend booking with Disney directly, it's very straightforward and everything can be done by email :)

August is very hot and humid. If you do it it in August, have the event plan for early morning or evening. This is especially true if you have having an outdoor ceremony.
Keep in mind that in Orlando, there is a strong chance of an afternoon thunderstorm every afternoon. Usually from 1pm to 7pm or so. Disney Weddings will have a backup location selected though, just in case of rain.
Are you having an Intimate Wedding or a Custom Wedding?
Hope this helps.

by the way, I second the recommendation to go with booking your wedding with Disney DIRECTLY.

We did late Oct and it was still raining in the afternoons! What venue are you looking at? The Wedding Pavillion or elsewhere? We were planned outside but had to be moved inside. What about earlier or later in the year. What other school breaks do the kids get??

Hi, and congratulations!
We got married in the WDW pavillion at Easter time and the weather was perfect. If you are stuck on August I have also heard on the boards that the later end of August is better.
I booked with Virgin and would recommend them to anyone...And...our Disney coordinator was fab too... I feel we had the best of both.
Good luck..

I agree with you Bec. We got married in March last year and the weather was great. I personally could not handle the humidity of August in a wedding dress, its just too hot.
We booked through Virgin as well and again I thought they were excellent, they really looked after everything for us.

Hi
Thanks for all the replies . I think to be honest reading this we are going to have to rethink August , it just seems as though its going to be too hot (and wet maybe) . Unfortunately easter is out due to me being unable to get time off work during that period but it would seem earlier in the year is going to be better maybe May time or even March . Have to see how that would work with the kids and school etc.
tazfoto , we are looking at the intimate wedding package and from reading these boards and looking at the photos etc , the WDW pavillion seems to be what we want .
Good stuff , thanks for all your help so far .

March is a fine time :) we got married there in early december to have all the decorations up and also because it's been a bit of a quieter time around Disney and the weather is usually easier to take :)
I've been out there in may when it's been over 100 and wow... august certainly isn't my favourite time!
Definitely book direct.. although my experience of disney wedding organisors was pretty poor , it's better than many have had with virgin and others. I do think it depends who you get as your co-ordinator so certainly take the time to insist on one you know to be good. (the wedding went fine, but trying to get it all sorted out beforehand was a nightmare).
The pavilian really is wonderful whatever the weather and makes for great photos, especially the window looking out to the castle :)

Hi Alorko,
The Wedding Pavilion is a very nice place. We had our wedding there last year and enjoyed every bit of it.
Just a bit of information.. most of the veterans of this board know this already:
Did you know that Disney has a magnifying glass on the stain glass at the altar so the castle would look bigger? I have always like their attention to details... :)
Happy planning. Ask if you have questions.

I meant "ask if you have questions"... typed a bit too quickly there... :)

what about october half term, its a beautiful time to go, not much rain, never had much in the way of humidity then it wasnt that much either, about 3 days in 3 trips, weather is superb, never had much rain to speak of, about 15-20mins at around 4 in the afternoon on some days not all when we've been, and its cheaper than august flight too ime :)

Hi thanks for all the info. We have been looking at other times of the year , it seems we can find good and bad with most times with regard weather , us school holidays and trying to fit round the folks here at home . And we keep coming back to end of August , which apart from weather (heat , hurricanes) seems ok.
Does anybody know what happens if you are unlucky enough to get really bad weather on your wedding day , what kind of contingency plan Disney have? And do you think this would ruin the day ? It may well be this one factor that causes us to go with earlier in the year and just hope people can fit round us.
Many thanks
