DH and I will be going in Feb (just the two of us) and we're trying to decide what to do about transportation...

We have been planning on hiring a town car from the airport to the hotel (Holiday Inn Sunspree) and then using the hotel's free shuttle to get to and from the parks. We're not planning on going all around Florida, so the shuttle really meets our needs.

However, reading many posts, it seems that the shuttle might be a hassle. SO - I'm thinking about a taxi to get to and from the park (still a town car from airport) during the day (maybe taking a shuttle to come home at night as time won't be an issue) but am wondering how much people have paid for them (the hotel's less than 1 mile away, I can't imagine it would be that much!)

I think last resort would be to rent a car - we can do it for around $30/day, but then there's parking, and the hassle of driving myself...

What do you all suggest? Any way I can find out taxi prices???

You're probably looking at almost the same cost for a taxi per day as a rengal per day. I'm not sure if you're in the US or not, but I've gotten a compact rental for under $20 a day through Priceline.

Remember that that mile is just to the enterance to Disney. Disney is HUGE so when offsite hotels say "1 mile to Disney" it's really "1 mile til you're on Disney Property"

Thanks! I was figuring the taxi might be about the same as a rental - and I'd much rather let someone else do the driving!

Any ideas on where I can go to check rates of the taxis? I might just take it to the closest Disney spot and then hop on ***. trans then...

Every time we have been we have just used the free shuttles too and from Disney, for the odd occassion when they are not convenient just get a taxi as and when required. (Go to EPCOT or even better Downtown, as they are much nearer to the hotels than the other parks).
Having said that this year we are getting a car for 7 days as we think it works out cheaper for our party to get to Universal, Seaworld etc, last time the taxi fare to these parks was $60 -$70 thats from LBV.

we have always rented a van, much prefer that to busses even if i stayed at a hotel that had them, as we go other places in orlando, so we can come and go as we please :)

The only places in the US I have not had use of a car are in Manhattan and San Francisco. Although Disneyland is set up with shuttles etc they are designed to limit where you can visit. We have stayed for two weeks or more for most of out visits and like to have the freedom to travel where and when we want. It seems a shame to to experience some of the wider US particually for those from the UK who haven't visited anywhere else in the States

From The holiday inn sunspree you are probably looking at $40-$50 return in a taxi to Magic Kingdom, thats just two journeys, you can get rental cars for much less and have the freedom to come and go as you please?
