View Full Version : Transferring from Wheelchair to Rides

Can anyone confirm for me what the procedure is for wheelchair transfer on the rides? E.G. if I leave the wheelchair to board a ride and then the ride ends somewhere else (or the exit is on the other side), how will I get the chair back (may need it straight away if the ride was intense!). I suppose I'm also a bit worried about someone else picking up the chair as we are renting it from an outside company and would hate to lose it.
Also, I absolutely love Tomorrowland Transit Authority which for obvious reasons isn't wheelchair accessible. I'm sure I can get up the moving walkways to the ride but will I be able to leave the chair somewhere safe at the bottom?
Thanks!

We always transfer my DD on to rides. If we have ever gone in one entrance and out another they have always moved the chair to where we are getting off. This is rare though because most rides we have gotten on at the exit point so chair is there. You can do this if you have a GAP. Could you not tie some thing on the chair to show it is yours. Not sure about Tomorrowland Transit Authority. :)

Sammy at the back of the chair we hired for DD there was a stocking bag, we used to leave another bag in this with our suncreams and rainmacs in so anyone else could tell it was not theirs. We did not have any problems at all.

We have always just left DS wheelchair at the bottom of the elevator at TTA and never had any problems. Yes, if the exit point differs to where you get on, a CM will move your chair for you.

Thanks guys, and great idea about putting something on the chair to 'mark' it.

Just be certain not to leave anything of great value in or on the chair (strollers either!). Most things are very safe at WDW, but even there cameras and other valuable items have been known to go missing.

If i remember right we've been stopped during TTA so that a person in wheelchair could get on. Just like they do on Spaceship Earth.

some rides you can ride without leaving the wheelchair, but when that isnt possible, as has been said, it will be waiting for you at the exit.
BTW... in rides such as Peter PAn, they will slow down the ride so that you can get on :)

yep
like $450 shopping trip money. We called in at MGM on our next to last day (on our way to the Florida Mall) and whilst on TOT somebody emptied the cash from my wallet. Do NOT trust the Disney staff...they were the only people who had access to our chair. I even asked the guy if my bag was ok on the chair and he told us it would be fine because he would transfer it to the exit for us. .........discovered the loss 10 minutes after leaving TOT. So many cast members on TOT we were not 100% sure who had moved the wheelchair so Disney management didn't want to help and Orange? County police department said we were just unlucky.
NOT insured cos money was not on ME !
Severe lesson learned I was in holiday mode and everything and everybody was magical. Brought me down to earth with a bump. :(
So yes, transfers are easy in most places, 99.999% of Cast Members are helpful, trustworthy and pleasant, and you should have no problems.

Cheers for that, I plan to transfer wherever possible rather than stay in the chair. Sound advice about the cash. so sorry to hear about the theft. I am not very trusting generally so alwasy keep my bumbag with me.
