Hi All,
Getting into panic mode now as we only have a few weeks left before we go...:D
So anyway looking at the time we arrive on our first day (3:30)and the time we have set for Mickey's Backyard BBQ as 6:00 are we pushing things? We are using DME and will be staying at POR. I am just worried that we will be cutting it close by the time we check into the hotel and rush off to get to the Wilderness. I know with DME you have to wait for them to drop off other people. Am I just being paranoid?

You may be pushing it just a little. You may even be pushing it if you had a car waiting. Remember to get from POR to MBYBBQ you are going to have to taxi or take transport from POR to MK and then MK - Fort Wilderness.

I'd have to agree with USC. Lets say you actually land on time - you're looking at up to an hour and a half to get to the resort which would be 5. You can check in quickly but that time of day, I've always had a long line. There's a lot that is going to have to go right :sigh:

Very close. If you use WDW transport to get to BBQ you are going to have to transfer inside Ft. Wilderness. Allow at minimum one hour (for BBQ I'd say one hour thirty) to travel between resorts.
You are definitely NOT being paranoid!

I'm thinking Im going to have to cancel this and try to get Hoop De doo for a later time or the Lau at the Poly. Any other suggestions are welcomed though :)

Suggestions for dinner on your arrival night? DTD would be a good bet. From the West Side over to the Marketplace there are several nice choices for dinner.

Ok problem solved...I called and cancelled Mickey's Backyard BBQ :( but instead made a later reservation for Hoop de doo revue. :) This will give us enough time to get to our resort, freshen up and look around. Thanks for your input it really helped!
Getting sooo excited now!

That's an excellent exchange! I've not ever been to Hoop De Doo, but I know our Keith usually goes first thing when he arrives. It's a great way to start the holiday!
Enjoy yourselves! I'm so happy that it all worked out for you.

When we have taken the grandkids we have made it a point to make Hoop Dee Doo on our first night at WDW. We have even done it without the grandkids. We love it.

We went to MBYBBQ last time, we didn't know about the transportation within Fort Wilderness and therefore arrived late - which was a real shame as we had to rush our meal and we didn't quite feel part of it. We always normally get to places just on time and we were at the bus station in Fort Wilderness at the time the BBQ was due to start - we didn't think that we had to travel from there - then we had to wait for the bus and travel we were quite late which tarnished the evening for us.

Yes, the internal transport at Ft. Wilderness will throw you off if you don't know about it! I find it very cumbersome and haven't been back there in years (to eat) because of it.

Well, I made the same mistake you almost made. Our plane was supposed to take off here at Milwaukee at 7:30am or so and arrive Orlando at 11:05am. Well..it went to **** in a hand bag right here in Milwaukee. It took LESS time to exit the plane in Orlando, find our way to DME, register with them, ride the buss to OKW, check in, talk to the concerge there to re-schedule our CP reservations, visit our room, return to the hospitality, ride the buss to TMK and check in at CP than it did for our plane to go from the GATE here in MILWAUKEE to the end of the runway IN MILWAUKEE. First we had to wait for a union someone to push a circuit breaker in the belly of the plane..30 minutes. Then we sat on the tarmack for 2:30 waiting for the pane's battery to charge. We finally got to the runway after 10am. Our CP reservation was for 1pm with an expected arrival time of 11am for our flight. Ok, I figured 2 hrs would be enough. Well we landed at 12:55. Nearly 2 full hours late, leaving us 5 minutes to get out of the airport, to OKW, check in, and get to TMK's CP. Didn't happen obviouslly. The rest of the vacation went flawlessly. I won't fly AirTran agian. Tried to save afew bucks on air fare. Another lesson learned.
Lesson learned...NEVER schedule aa ASR anywhere near your arrival time. NEVER. Second lesson learned, you get what you pay for. Cheap tickets usually means cheap service.

Which is exactly why we rarely schedule anything on our arrrival day unless we are driving and KNOW we are going to be there in plenty of time.

We arrive just after midnight, which is lovely as we can just flop into bed, we have planned a lazy day for our first day, with a visit to a supermarket for essentials, shampoo, etc included, might do some seriousl shopping too! LOL nothing planned at all.
