Hi, I am looking into renting an evc (is that the right name?? ) offsite for the week I am in Disney. We are staying offsite, so my family & I will be transporting the evc back & forth. Does anyone know if you can fit an evc in a SUV or Minivan WITHOUT disassembling it???? (Just popping the WHOLE thing in the back) Also, I have RA & if I try to walk the parks I am going to end up with a severe flare up with inflammation & pain. But I do not have to be in the evc 24/7.....meaning I can go on rides & even stand in short lines without it. So my other question is, can I park my evc outside a ride & how about a restaurant??? Are you aloud to do that??? Thanks so much for you help.

Yes...we park my evc outside rides and restaurants all the time. Just take the key with you! We don't leave anything valuable on it. I don't know if you can fit it into a car....we always use Disney transportation and we stay on site....maybe someone else can tell you. Have fun!

I doubt it, they can be quite large. You should check with your hotel, its likely they have free shuttle service that can accomidate the ECV.

Here is a photo of the heavy duty one from walker mobility with the sun-shade:

As you can see unless you have a **** of a ride, you aren't goning to fit that in without disassembling it. It DOES fit all disney busses and monorails at Disney and likely will fit most offsite hotel shuttle vans as well.

The normal size scooters break down very easily but it won't fit into an SUV unfortunately.:( The smallest car I got one into was a Toyota Celica with the batteries on the floor under the rear seats.

OH NO!!!!! You mean even broken down, you can't fit it in a SUV???? I have a Chrysler Pacifica (or similar) rented for us down there! :(

There will be five of us in it.

Hhhmm, it just won't have the trunk space. A seven seater won't even take every piece in the trunk. We have to distribute pieces about the car which is fine when there's no luggage in. If you're happy to have pieces under passenger's feet you should be able to get away with it.

Well, we definitely won't have luggage in it because the EVC will only be going back & forth between the parks.....but....I don't know how everyone will feel about having pieces of the EVC shoved under there feet. Maybe I should just rent it at the parks??? Or I should have rented a U-haul truck!!

I'm making it sound enormous, aren't I and it isn't it's just the 2 main pieces are oddly shaped and then there's the seat.
Basically the back comes away from the front so it's in half and then the seat comes off but it's always going to be as wide as it is fully assembled.

I highly recommend Disney transport between parks with an ECV. You just drive it on. No taking it apart. If I'd had to take it apart at every park I'd have been more worn out than I was.

Whitequeen- I just looked up a picture of a Toyota Celica (because I didn't know what they look like) and it looks kinda small....so maybe, just maybe, there will be enough room for one in our Chrysler Pacifica (or whatever is similar) Keep your fingers crossed!!!!

(Oh by the way....I didn't know if you know what U-haul is....it's a moving truck:lol: )

Yes, but the Toyota has a trunk, the SUV just has space behind the rear seats. The toyota trunk goes back into the car a bit.
Yeah, I've heard of U-Haul.

Oh sorry  I actually looked up pictures of the Chrysler Pacifica and it three rows of seats (2 buckets-seats) with a console in the middle of all 3 rows!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And this tiny little back space!!! OK....I really don't think this will do.............ok starting to hyperventillate!!!!!! :faint: I think this type is definitely NOT going to suite us with renting an evc offsite.

I think I am going to try and change it to something else. HELP!!!!!!!! What should I get???????????

Well, I've had an 8 seater and that was fine. I've had the Toyota and that was just ok. So perhaps a larger Saloon with biggish trunk or Minivan where the seats go down.
I'm not being picky, I just don't want you to get there and find it won't fit.

This (http://www.dollar.com/fleet/fleet_vehicle_detail.aspx?CarType=US|COUNTRY|FDAR) As it happens I've had one of these but not with an ECV. They are spacious and such a strange shape you never lose it in the parking lot.

That does look nice, but I could also end up with a Ford Taurus, which I don't know if the trunk would be big enough.....so I am changing it to a minivan....I got a really great deal for Dollar & the mini van will run me $242.68 for a 8 day rental. Not too bad!! Thanks & wish me luck!!!

I believe the rear seats in the Pacifica fold down so it may accomodate your ECV. Another option might be to ask for a hitch, which goes on the back of the vehicle and has a ramp that you drive the ECV onto to transport it around. The rental agency may or may not have these available as an option.

When we were there two years ago, we had a PT Cruiser and we were able to fit an ECV in the back by folding down one seat. Luckily there were only the three of us and DS is quite small  But it fit without much trouble.

Yeah, it's looking like we will have to take the ECV apart because even though we are renting a SUV.....with 5 people, it's not gonna fit.
I have another question though.....we don't have handicap tags on our car, so we will be parking in the regular spots, so I was figuring that my family can take the tram to the monorail & I would just drive the ECV???? Is this possible, has anyone ever done this??? Or can they drop me off at the monorail somehow, park the car & then I could wait for the tram to bring them????

Is it possible to obtain a temporary handicapped placard from your motor vehicle department before you leave? Since you'll be using a rental vehicle, that would make more sense, anyway. Usually, you obtain a signed form from your doctor and present it at the appropriate place. Not sure what the turn around time is, though.

You could check with a CM when you enter the car park to see if you can be dropped off somewhere, then the vehicle parked. Some of the disabled parking areas are quite a distance from the park entrance, if I remember correctly.

Queenie probably will know! :)

It's quite feasible for the family to take a tram and you drive the scooter. In fact you may get there first.
If you do get a temporary handicapped tag you will be nearer to the T&TC or the Park entrance depending on which Park you are visiting. With MK you're never going to be any nearer than the T&TC so you can get the Monorail or Ferry with no problem.

Just an update. I have rented a mini-van, which I think should be fine. I also rented an ECV from Walker Mobility, spoke with Bob, and he was so nice and answered all my questions. On their website they show you with pictures, how to break it down. (YES I NEED PICTURES!!!!!! ) It looks very easy and my husband feels comfortable with it too. Plus I am renting a battery harness, (I think that was what they called it??? ) anyway, it's so we can leave the ECV in the trunk & just bring the batteries in each night to charge!!!! That's a little easier at night for us!! Thanks everybody!!

AND TO ALL THE PEOPLE ALREADY AT WDW & THOSE GOING SOON....I HOPE YOU HAVE THE MOST MAGICAL TIME!!!!!!!!! :grhug:
