View Full Version : Really stupid question

OK I know this is probably a really stupid question but I need to ask it anyway!

We've booked our flydrive through TCD and have paid for 'Pre Seating', does anyone know what this is? Is it that they allocate our seats for us prior to us checking in? If so do I need to phone them and get it organised? We're going next month and it has only just dawned on me that I know nothing about it!

Thanks

if it's what i paid for last year (i think it was called that), it just means you get seated together - you still had to check in as normal.

however, we paid for it there and back, and if i remember correctly someone somewhere (!) said that they usually allocate you the same seats you had going out there anyway. now whether that's just with pre seating or not i don't really know.

hope this helps - check their website maybe - it should say on there. :)

You have to pay extra for being preseated???? How utterly absurd. What is air travel coming to?

It's a nice money spinner that UK charter airlines (not scheduled) have been running for a while now. You pay upwards of $10-$20 per person to ensure that you are seated together but it doesn't let you choose your seats. Some don't even guarantee that you will be on the same row - a family of four could be seated with two in one row and the other two directly behind - but this is still together!

The gamble is that if you don't pay the money, you could turn up at the airport to find that your family group is split across different parts of the plane if loads of others have stumped up the cash.

I agree =/ I always thought airlines were obligated to seat families together as far as possible and that unless you turned up very late to check-in or you're part of a large group that chances are you will be seated together. Saying that though we pre-booked seats together in 2002 and cos there was a palava at check-in (we were one of the first to get there but one of the last checked in cos the woman manning our desk was totally incompetent..) we ended up being given a free upgrade so we could sit together which was a nice perk and I know they were only really obligated to refund the extra we paid. The family behind us hadn't paid for prebooked seats so they were split up, quite far away from each other I think

In the UK the CAA mandate that families must be sat next to each other whereever possible. So families with children will need to be sat together anyway. (though most familes book the pre-seat option for safety!)
The only ones this will really affect is the groups of adults, or grown up families.

The key word there is wherever possible on a flight where there are lots of families it doesn't always work out like that. Seats are allocated on a first come first served basis so someone has to be last the agents on the desk work the seatplan as best they can but its sometimes impossible to not leave single seats which will mean someone who is at the back is not going to be sat together. In answer to your question TCD seat all passengers who have prepaid for seats tog usually 2-3 days before the flight departs

Thanks guys - I phoned TCD to find out and they confirmed that it's just so that we're all sat together but we can't choose where we sit.

Hi, in answer to a comment made earlier - you will have the same seats inbound as you get outbound.

Have fun........
