Hi

We are going to Discovery Cove and I know you are not meant to wear jewellery when you do the swim with the dolphins but could someone tell me if they have had to remove their wedding ring?

Mine is only a plain band but not sure if can wear it or not and do not want to have my finger bitten by a dolphin because it sees something shiny.

It is jewelry so it has to come off, no exceptions.

The reason is that underwater, when the sun hits jewelry, it looks like a small fish reflecting sunlight and the dolphins could mistake it for a treat and bite your hand. You will not be allowed in with it...

Thanks thought that might be the case. :(

I have not removed my ring for over 17 years, even when i had the kids so this will be a first. My mum claims it is bad luck :( hope not.

Really lucking forward to the swim though.:)

Sorry, have to disagree with you SM. Unlesss this has changed in the last 18months we were told that all jewellery EXCEPT Wedding Rings had to be removed. I certainly had mine on.

Point taken  , my neighbor did it a few weeks ago and she had to take hers off, there were two incidents of young dolphins biting kids in the last two months and they might be doing it now just in case.

Perhaps it's a recent change then. I'll make a point of finding out next week.

You are certainly allowed to wear a wedding ring. We were there a couple of weeks back and were told this is the only jewellery you are allowed, as it's the only thing the trainers are allowed. I had to remove my ear rings which I totally forgot about.

If they are up tight, you could always put a self adhesive plaster over it, but I wore my wedding band last year with out comment.

Thanks for the replies know it was most probably a silly question really.

Nice to know that someone has been recently and it was not a problem but I think I will try and remove it for the day or just the whole holiday. Maybe h will buy me a new one!!!!!!!!!!!!!:wiggle:

Not sure it I would want to put a plaster around it as I would worry about that coming off in the water and would not want to be in trouble for that or do any harm to any of the animals.

My DW and I have just done the swim (13th Sept) and wedding bands were definitely allowed.

DC is great best day of our holiday.

Few pointers.

At the far end of DC there is a nice quiet area with hammocks, not many people went to this area.

The top cove area is also a good place to view the dolphins as the lifeguards let you walk out to a certain point, better advantage point then beach side.

The food and drinks were very good.

Do the bird feeding with nectar I am not a lover of our furry friends but its a great experience.

:iagree: with that one, this is where we spent most of our day  DH likes all the ray pools and that, but I was just there for the dolphins, and spent most of my day on this hammock.

Grad06, I removed all of my jewellery except my wedding ring when we went away, makes life so much easier, and it meant I didn't have to think about it at DC as I knew wedding rings were ok

Wow!!

Thanks washy and vikki for mentioning that part of DC. I looks like heaven on earth. I am really excited about going now. :wiggle:

I do not normally wear any jewellery when I go on holiday. Normally just a watch and my wedding ring. I am not a big jewellery person to be honest. I have spoken to my nan and she says that she has removed her wedding ring and not to worry about taking it off if I want to. So I took the big step last night and took my wedding ring off and guess what I am still married!!!!!! All that worrying for nothing. I have decided to wear my Graduation ring which is a band from my h and d's on that finger as it is a little larger and I can then just remove it on the day.

Thanks for all the advice. Although looking forward to this I am a little nervous and have a great deal of respect for any animals. Counting the days now till we go and not long.

You will have a great day when you do your dolphin swim, really capture the moment because it does tend to fly!

We had Lester who was a 30 yr old dolphin and the trainer was Randy who made the experience one to remember.

Once you have done the swim you will go and view the photos taken but again there is no real pressure to buy.

Have a great time and enjoy the snorkeling with Mr Ray!

I was bored so I emailed Discovery Cove to ask.

Guests must remove all jewelry except wedding rings. You may also wear a waterproof watch. All our trainers are required to also remove all jewelry except wedding rings.

Hope that helps.

I am glad You do not have to remove wedding rings as I think mine would have to be cut off! My fingers have got a bit chubbier over the last 20 years.

We went and had a fantastic day at DC and you do not have to remove your wedding ring but I did as I was worried about having a finger or two missing if I didn't. :rotfl:

There was nothing to of worried about though as I saw others wearing theirs.

My ring was also a little tight to get over the bone  , do bones grow as we get older?????????

Must say though it was worth taking it off though as got a new one:thumbs: .
