There is no straight answer to this question as it depends when you are looking to travel, where in the UK you are flying from, if you prefer scheduled or charter.
There are some good current deals around through Virgin and BA but these are for travel in the next few weeks/months. A few people have said that there are some very good deals out there on charter flights and packages at the moment.
Some of the travel agents are offering price matching for package deals. Looking further ahead, packages may be competitive as the main 'charter' tour operators will be releasing their Winter 2007 brochures over the next week or so.
However, if you are looking to travel more than a few months from now then the offers are harder to come by. People on here are very good at flagging up offers so keep your eyes peeled and share anything you find.

Direct flights for next Summer seem stuck at the £800 per adult level at the moment, going non direct can reduce the price by £100 or more but at the moment the airline have 10 months to fill threre planes and are also waiting to see what bookings they get from tour operators. If you register with travel sites such as Expedia ebookers, airline betwork etc they will send e-mails with deals but generally these are for only the next few months or when the airlines anticipate being quiet. Be prepared for strange results to searches. Earlier this year we were looking at flights to different places in the states and found flights to Savannah Georgia and found some via Orlando but the flight with the airline to Orlando was £75 more per person!

We buy our flights 11 months before we go - and get a great deal - our flights are £375 per person return Heathrow to MCO (via Washington) when we booked an extra seat on the same flight three months later we paid £675 for the new seat - shows how it pays to book early.
We use Flight Centre - they will beat any online price that you find and also find accommodation and car hire, and tickets too.

We are going on the 9th December and returning on 6th January. We costed flights from the 13th December and they shot up greatly.
The children have exactly 10 days off school for this trip - just at the limit.

13 December is getting into the Christmas travel period.
Still showing on Airline network no direct flights from Heathrow on Air Canada at £356

I priced for our family for this year (24th Nov to 6th Dec) ~ family of 4 with 2 kids and it was £950 with virgin from London to MCO direct. With an upgrade to PE on the return flight the total was £1495. I thought that was pretty good for kinda last minute!
