This is for the UK vistors using DME. My Dad is driving me mad over how this works.
Could someone who has used it going form the UK please explain in easy english how this works so i can show him. How it works going to the US and how it works coming home.
Sorry but he is doing my head in.
Thanks

Going there. You get sent special luggage labels/tags you put on your bags.
You check in as normal in uk.
Get to US, collect your bags as normal from the first luggage collection point, go through customs/immigration blah blah, put bags back on luggage conveyer.
Then, you follow the signs through to the DME desk (so you dont bother picking up your cases as you normally would)
You go to the desk, show your DME passes, get assigned to a queue for your bus.
Get on bus, arrive at resort, check in.
Go do whatever you want and sometime later your bags appear in your room :)
on way back, you wait for the bus outside your resort (with your bags)
They load the luggage in, you get into the bus and are delivered to the airport :)
That's that basically!
It's easy, no hassle really and the only "hmmmmm" bit is how fast you get your bags at the resort

Hi Brian, we used DME in sept this year and it was really easy. We flew with BA from Newcastle via gatwick. We put our DME tags on our cases before we left for the airport (we received these about 4 weeks before our hols).
When we arrived at Orlando we picked up our cases on the first baggage collection just after passing through immigration. We then put our cases on the second security check and didn't see them again till later that day. Once through the airport to the main terminal building (via the monorail) we found the DME check in desk and had our vouchers stamped to allow us to board a bus, which we did very quickly. After a short wait and journey we were at our resort POR in about 1 hour. We checked in about 5pm and went to the room to get changed and we were out again for our evening meal. By the time we got back at about 9pm our cases were waiting for us in our room.
Coming home you will get confirmation from DME the day before you leave what time the bus will pick you up from your resort. We had to ring to confirm this time. We didn't use any tags this time, just took our cases with us and put them on board the bus with us. Once you get to the airport you are on your own to find your check in desk and start you journey home.
Hope that's as clear as mud :D If you have any questions please ask away.

Brian, please be aware that DME is only available from Orlando International and not Sanford so if you are booking a charter flight you may not be able to use this service.

Thanks guys. Just one more question. On the way back. When you get to the airport do you have to collect your cases from the coach or are they checked in for you.
Once again Thanks

The cases are on the same coach as you travel in and you collect them yourself as you get off the coach. You need to check your cases in yourself at the appropriate check in desk.

sorry if this is a silly question, but reading the above they send the cases to follow you on after, but is it possible to collect our own bags from baggage claim and take them on the DME ourselves instead of being without the luggage for a couple of hours?
just wondering as the flights we have booked dont land in orlando until about 5.30 pm, and we would be going out for something to eat and would want to get changed before we go out, and dont fancy waiting around for a couple of hours to be able to do so?

I don't think they have space for more than carry-ons on the bus.
Could you pack your clothing change in a carry-on? Toiletries are limited when flying, but shouldn't be an issue for a quick change, should it?

First of all I found a site on mouseplanet -which explains the whole process really well with pictures (not sure if the link is Ok to put on)
Secondly our DME tickets arrived today for our Christmas Trip - Unfortunately due to medical reasons I have had to cancel!!!!! Made us feel really down to say the least
Does anyone know how I cancel the DME?

I think you can cancel DME when you cancel your resort stay. Otherwise, check the Disney website and see if there is a DME cancellation process there.

We are staying next year for a week at the end of a 18 day holiday. Is it possible to use the DME bus back to the airport if you haven't used it to get to the resort? also how do you register for DME? I booked via the stay via the Disney.co.uk website.
