View Full Version : Renovate rather than construct

Since my earlier post, I have been thinking of ways to improve what is already in place or to act on some of the early plans made by WED, rather than construct new attraction ideas with the same old (insert latest movie character here). Here is a list of ideas going park by park. Some ideas are mine and some are not. I am also not sure of the feasibility or logistics that go into each improvement. However, I am still interested in your feedback.

Magic Kingdom:
1- Gut the pooh ride and add something that does not use cardboard cut outs and black lights. Perhaps a new dark ride with original characters IE: tiki birds or the country bears. If movie characters are needed, add all AA figures, heck even keep Pooh (even though the cartoon is not that popular with kids these days) just make it a palatable ride.

2- Tear down the Pooh meet and greet area and add a ride exclusively for little girls. perhaps a princess dark ride. I personally do not have girls, but I feel that the attractions you would think would be for girls is not IE: snow white or even the castle that you cannot enter most of the time due to a stage in front. The Magic Kingdom or more specifically Fantasy land seems to be lacking a magical ride for little girls.

3- Instead of "re-doing" an beloved attraction, just add to it. wouldn't it be great if they added a few more rooms to the haunted mansion or pirates while keeping the integrity of the original ride. I know that both rides "tell a story" but I think they could be added to without removing anything that people have loved for so many years. And no I don't mean throwing in Jack Sparrow here and there. Or how about the 2 mountains (not including splash). For crying out loud give us the payoff!! you go on each ride with the click, click, click, click up a hill... you reach the crest and then..... nothing:( Just change the track layout. I do not mean a swallow your tongue type hill, but at least a splash mountain type of drop would be adequate. The non drop has annoyed me ever since i was tall enough to go on each of the rides.

4- lose the Aladdin carpet snooze. How about a peter pan type flight ride over Acraba.<- (not my idea, I read it on this site) Or even a choose you own adventure part at the end IE:horizons. But instead of just choosing, you would get to make a wish to the genie

I just realized that this is getting very long winded and I have not made it to any of the other parks. If anyone would like me to continue, please let me know, if not at least let me know what you think. Lastly wouldn't it be great to add the thunder mesa/western river expedition near splash and thunder mountain. Minus all of the drunk Indian stereo types, of course ;)

I like some of your ideas and would like to hear more however i disagree and like the style of the winnie the pooh ride. It is different and makes it really seem like you are being transported inside one of the pooh books. Another room inside the mansion is a great idea. Facelifts are on the whole a great way instead of tearing down rides (Tiki Room a good example) however it can also go very wrong (Stitch Great Escape although a good idea is nowhere near as good as Alien Encounter was. Also the Journey into Imagination ride is not as good now.) Still its better than getting rid of them altogether like Universal did to Kong - anyone know why that went? Still getting back on topic I'm not sure I'd want them to mess with some rides. I'm not sure I like the idea of messing with Space Mountain like they are at DL. The ride is so 80's its great.

1-I also disagree for the pooh ride. Granted, I've never been in the one in Florida, but I'm going to assume the DL one is very much the same.

2-A ride exclusively for little girls... How about a Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid (as seen on the DVD) Dark Ride?

3-I'm unclear as to what you mean here

4-Did I post my Aladdin magic carpet ride idea? Basically, its a la Soarin, cept your on carpets and Genie is your guide.

Please countinue! I love discussing Imagineering things!!!

More dark rides are definately a good idea. I don't think their are enough of them. I have heard the Speedway is going to be given a facelift and turned into a Cars raceway. I think that'll be cool. Now rides like pirates and small world have been renovated i guess the naturally the next one up for renovation at MK would be Haunted Mansion. I'm not sure why they didn't update it when the film came out. A new room would be good i'm sure there are some great new effects they could utilise now. Not sure if it would be logistically possible to add a room but it is a good idea. I think the jungle cruise could get a renovation when the film comes out too. I hope they don't completely overhaul it but it would be nice to see something new there.

I think the cars thing is appropriate. It's a wonder to me why we still have the speedway... I don't love the idea of renovation due to film, specially in HM, cos that movie wasn't that great. I think JC and HM are fine as they are.
