Due to the new security measures and restrictions on cabin baggage size, I am contemplating putting our video camera into our hold baggage, rather than trying to carry it on. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Will it be damaged by security screening? We plan to lock our hold baggage with TSA approved locks.

Personally I would not risk putting any delicate items into the baggage hold. It`s frighteneing when you see how the bags are thrown around when they are being loaded onto the plane.
The security screening should do no damage at all.

Another never. I've gotten my baggage back soaked through before. Imagine if a camera or other electronic were in there!

My sister had her digital camera stolen on the USA side of a trip to Cancun going through customs. They told her that she had no proof it was in her bag so there was nothing they could do about it  I would def. attempt to carry it on with you if at all possible.

We flew back the day after the security scare in August and were told that we had to put our video camera in the hold which we were not happy about. Fortunately it was ok but I wasn't happy about it. I would definitely take it in your hand luggage.
