The taxes and fees for car rentals are horrible down there, wow!
Anyway, we'll be there in Feb and I need to rent a car. Does anyone have any tips on saving some money? I will be flying into Sanford International.
I've checked AAA and Fed Gov't Discounts. I'm still searching....

The only rental car discounted rate I've ever had any luck with was through Priceline. I ended up with Hertz for $15 a day. Couldn't beat that with a stick, eh? :D
You could try that if you like working through those sorts of places.

That is a very good rate. I think even if you had to upgrade at that point you'd still be ahead of the game.
How are in advance did you start bidding on priceline?

Priceline or Hotwire. I got a compact (ended up with a midsize) for $15 a day in Providence.

About a month in advance, I believe. Unless you have a very good discount code, I don't know of any other way to get a really low rate. Doesn't mean they don't exist, it just means I don't know how to get them.

It might be worth you taking a trip to your local bookstore. Some of the travel guides have discount vouchers in them for car rental.
