Has anyone ever had problems getting their reservation at another DVC resort other than their home one?
We don't usually go during peak time but I am starting to get concerned that we may not get our required room or dates in the 7 month booking window

The Blue Fairy,
It depends on the dates and the unit you are targeting. Some dates are very much in demand such as NYE, Christmas and spring break. Also, December is a very popular time to go because the point requirements are at their lowest and the resorts/parks are so wonderfully decorated and there are additional events (ex. candlelight processional, MVMCP, Osborne Family ligthts) Another time that has really become popular is October/November for a variety of reasons. The weather is awesome, the Food and Wine Festival is going on and MNSSHP is available.
There are certain units which are always in high demand. An example of this would be Std view Boardwalk rooms or Old Key West 3BR units because the point requirements for these units are so reasonable. Some DVC resorts such as Beach Club and Wilderness Lodge are small, so there are fewer units availabe to start with.
In general, I have had pretty good luck with the wait list. But, there have been a few times when the wait list did not come through. One example is Std view at BWV during the food and wine festival. Another time was BCV during the food and wine festival. Another time, I tried to make a ressie for std view BWV in January at exactly the 7 month window. They didn't have std view, but they did have boardwalk view so we decided to try that out.

Vero Beach can be tricky to get in the summer months too.

The Blue Fairy,
When are you planning to go and where do you want to stay?

Thank you for your replies
Well, next visit will be 2008 either early December or Oct/Nov (hopefully to catch MNSSHP and MVMCP :D ). I'd be looking at a studio or a 1 bedroom unit.
I would love to stay at AKV if possible (Savannah view) but I have a feeling that this may be very popular. It's not really a problem if we end up at our home resort but I'd like to think that at some point we could get what we want at another resort.
For example, if a DVC opens at the Contemporary, I'd really like to stay there also!
And so I was really just trying to test the water with you folks to see how easy/hard it was to get what you want in the 7 month booking window :)

The Blue Fairy,
A lot of folks make a ressie at their home resort at 11 months and use that for a fall back position. Then, when the 7 month booking window comes around they try for another resort. It sounds like you are pretty flexible, so I would expect you would have pretty good luck with what you are planning.

Thanks DC
I figure that's the best tactic. Book at your home resort then try and change should you wish to do so in the 7 month booking window :)
I really hope I get to stay at AKLV next time
