Has anyone else heard about this? It was a story in the Wall Street Journal. I apologize, I couldn't get the whole story without a subscription, but you get the idea... I can't wait to actually see them...I imagine they will be gorgeous!
"Walt Disney is teaming with couture bridal designer Kirstie Kelly to create a line of wedding gowns inspired by Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine or Ariel. The dresses come in high-shine satin with ball-gown skirts and make generous use of silver embroidery and crystal. They will cost from $1,100 to $3,000.
The gowns will go on sale in made-to-order at bridal boutiques in North America in June. They are an effort by Disney to extend its line of princess paraphernalia to older consumers.
Created in 2001 when the company's consumer-products division started packaging its female characters, Disney Princess has grown into a craze among little girls that is fast approaching annual sales of $3.5 billion from costumes, dolls, bedroom furniture and other regalia."

Oh my goodness!!! I can't tell you how excited I am by this!
I'm a bridal wear consultant and we get so many people coming in asking to be a princess, so it'll be great to see what the 'Modern Disney Princess Bride' will look like!
Hmmm.... I wonder if they'll need stockists in the UK... how cool would that be?!

I absolutely LOVE it! It's lovely making people so happy as a job! It's actually quite a privilege to be helping women pick the most important gown of their lives (after all picking the dress IS the most important part of the planning!) I'm terrible though as I get quite attached to some of my brides and get quite emotional when they come to collect their gowns.:tearwave:
It has it's downsides though - usually in the shape of over-enthusiastic mothers (who think they're getting married again and not their daughter) or jealous sisters (who think it should be them!) I'm like  :club: when I get those!

ABSOLUTELY!!! Come of over Hayley - it'd be great to see you!
If there's ANYONE on here getting wed anytime soon I'd LOVE to help with any aspect (I've been in the industry for years and know a few tricks!)

I read about this in the metro free paper this morning on the way to work!
Here is a link to the article online..
http://www.metro.co.uk/weird/article.html?in_article_id=45526&in_page_id=2
The one in the paper also had a picture of a wedding dress... I'm not sure if this was just a picture of any wedding dress, or one of the ones by the designer.
From the looks of this post the metro is really behind on this story ;) But I thought I would post it anyway in case anyone is interested :)

I agree... I expected them to be more, well, princessy really...
and they only go up to size US 14, which is bad news for any larger lady who had her heart set on a Disney dress :nono:

I kinda like how they look b/c they are tasteful. It's like only you might know your wedding gown was "inspired" by a Disney princess. The styles are pretty much the styles that are out there. Just presented in a way where they resemble each princess. But I think they are pretty!

Is it just me or are they trying to make the Ariel ones really close fitting so it looks like a fish tail?

I have to admit to being a bit disappointed. I thought they'd be a little bit more 'princessy' - big full skirts, long trains, tulle, organza, fitted corsets with large doses of swarovski crystals! I think that the range is quite nice (although I have seen much nicer) and I do wonder if the designer already had them on paper before the name Disney came up because there weren't many of them that seemed very princess inspired to me. I really think that they missed a big trick here and I would like to see another couple of gowns added to each 'princess' that fitted the bill better - I'd bet my last quid that those would be the gowns that they sold the most of!
There were a few really nice touches here and there and one or two of them are totally fabulous! It'd be interesting to know how much these gowns are coming in at.
The official verdict from this wedding gown connoisseur is "nice but doesn't really earn the 'Disney Princess' label"

I agree with you Kerry, I've seen way nicer dresses in local bridal shop windows than those dresses. Disney really messed up with this one

I really like the Belle collection they look the most princessy to me :)
I agree about the models  Standing with your hands on your hips and a scowl on your face is not my idea of how wedding dresses should be modeled - that look comes after the honeymoon

:rotfl: Too true!
I was talking to a lovely bloke from Bride Magazine today and we were talking about these gowns (as the magazine has approached Disney to do an editorial on the range) and he said that the gowns range from something like £1000 to £13,000  :faint: Yes! You heard me £13,000 - that's thirteen THOUSAND pounds!!!!!!
He agreed with me and said that they were no better than other bridal ranges.

Here is a re-post of some information from another thread:
Where you can buy Disney gowns
The gowns, which will retail from $1,100 to $2,900, initially will be sold in Central Florida at Solutions Bridal in Winter Park (http://solutionsbridal.com/).
February 23, 2007
Solutions Bridal is chosen as the flagship store to carry Disney's new bridal gown collection. With couture bridal designer Kirstie Kelly leading the design team, this line of gowns is inspired by Disney character princesses and will be released in April 2007. A trunk show is scheduled for early May 2007 to view the collection at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort.

Brides can soon say 'I do' like a princess (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/custom/tourism/orl-disney2307feb23,0,868348.story?coll=orl-business-headlines-tourism)
If your nuptial dreams include a fairy-tale wedding, Walt Disney Co. might have the perfect solution.
The company is using its stable of imaginary princesses as inspiration for a new line of wedding gowns. Disney and bridal designer Kirstie Kelly have developed a line of ethereal gowns that pay homage to Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White, Ariel and Sleeping Beauty.
"They will be high-fashion and very modern," said Paulette Cleghorn, president of Designer Loft Productions, a New York public-relations firm representing Kelly. "We are modernizing the princess concept. There is a difference between a girl who is inspired by Snow White and one who wants to dress like Snow White."
Cleghorn said women who buy from Disney's Fairy Tale Wedding collection are definitely in the inspired category. The gowns, she said, will only vaguely resemble the costumes made famous in Walt Disney movies and storybooks.
The gowns, which will retail from $1,100 to $2,900, initially will be sold at one location in Central Florida. Solutions Bridal in Winter Park will carry the line.
"It was a little bit of a surprise that we were chosen for this, but a wonderful surprise," Solutions Bridal Manager Monique Scollin said. "We have many brides who are married on Disney property, and I assume they will be our main customers for this line."
Disney will initially offer 34 gowns, a line that will be expanded to include bridesmaid dresses, flower-girl dresses and jewelry in October.
"The brand extensions will be inspired by the princesses as well," Cleghorn said. "Bridesmaid dresses will be called maidens and accessories will be called jewels."
Princess clothing and accessories have been a huge hit with girls ages 3 to 6. Disney has sold billions of dollars in costumes, dolls and related paraphernalia, and items adorned with Cinderella and her peers.
Disney is betting that the allure will extend to considerably older females who find the princesses' mystique intriguing.
The princesses collection will be displayed in New York in April and will go on sale in Orlando and Southern California in June, Cleghorn said. Later, the line will be available at bridal boutiques elsewhere in North America and Japan.
"This is not a collection that will be available at every store around the corner," she said. "But we are expecting a number of local retailing partners."
The release coincides with Disney's 2007 theme.
"This naturally ties into the Year of a Million Dreams," she said. "Think of it as one of those dreams."

The only one I can honestly say that I like is from the Belle collections . I think its style B # 2716 , the one with the ruffles and it could *still* use some pizazz .

They're pretty but nothing special IMO, you could get a much nicer dress for the same price without paying for the Disney branding

I agree with the prior comments...they are very pretty, but considering the fact that they START at $1,100, some of them seem a tad...plain. I do like that there are several styles for each princess.

the idea of Disney wedding gowns put a literal meaning to the clause: fairy tales do come true.
aside from the rather symbolic Disney accents, the whole Cinderalla feel and the happily-ever-after ending will make any wedding truly a fairy tale.
i wish these designs go as far as Asia. surely, a number of would-be-brides will really be interested in these wedding dresses! :wiggle:

Western style weddings are more and more popular in Japan every year  Even though Japanese people do not have the "Christian" heritage and these weddings are not "official" in Japan, brides are choosing to have them for the "show" the white gown, the flowers, cake, etc.
Tokyo Disneyland is becoming the preferred place to hold western style weddings in Japan. An acquaintance of mine and Mrs. SM worked as a wedding photographer at Tokyo Disneyland, he told us that most weddings are organized just as a wedding here in the US in Europe, with a "western" priest officiating in English  I'm sure many brides are choosing to wear "Princess" style or inspired gowns.

I was actually really disappointed in these. The price is wat too much for the dresses and they really weren't what I thought they would be. I was really hoping to get one for my wedding but not now. I do like some of their bridesmaid dresses though.
