At a press conference today, Walt Disney World and Disney Worldwide Outreach announced they are donating $10 million to Florida Children's Hospital, part of Florida Hospital's downtown Orlando campus.
The announcement was made by Disney World President Meg Crofton, who was accompanied by Al Weiss, worldwide president of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, and Lars Houmann, chief executive officer of Florida Hospital.
The hospital will be named for Disney, though the exact name has not been revealed yet. It is the first time a hospital has been named for the Disney company. Back in the early 1990s, the widow of company founder Walt Disney allowed Florida Hospital to use his name on its Walt Disney Memorial Cancer Institute. The hospital later stopped using the name.
Thanks to the $10 million Disney donation, the hospital is now up to $17 million of its $25 million goal for the new children's hospital.
