A neighbor og mine told me about the Amtrak auto train. Itlooks like a cool deal you ride the train and it takes you and your car. Anyway it says the train arrives in Sanford,Fl. Where is that in relation to Orlando? Is it a long distance? Any help would be appreciated

Sanford isn't too far at all. It is home to one of 2 airports that service the Orlando area (MCO is the other). From what I understand it's about an hour drive or so from Sanford Airport to property

We did the Auto Train from Sanford back to Lorton one time. If you use the 417 Toll road it isn't a bad drive from the Sanford Station to WDW at all.

We did it in 2001, the drive to Disney was nothing. We took the train from Washington DC and I for one found out I can not sleep on a train.

It feels like the train is really jerking you around a lot and those tracks aren't the best either. I have travelled extensively in Europe by train and they are much quieter and I've never had a problem sleeping.

I figure it wouldn't be the best night sleep. My kids don't sleep well when not at home so I'm prepared for that. I figure at some point they would crash. And for the price and getting to take my car I don't think you can beat it. Thanks for the info all.. :D

Just don't forget you will have to drive from your home in Ohio to Lorton, VA to catch the Auto Train. :)

Wish I had that info before England, I did not want to drive (other side of the road,) and did not want to take the train, cause of the rock and rolling, closest I ever came to being car sick

But since we live very near there, you can always drop by and say "hi!" LOL

LOL. I'm all about names with faces!! I figured the drive from herr to there is about 5 hours not bad. Definately do-able! Just as the kids have gone completely nutty i nthe car we will be able to board the train. I think they would love the train.I've never traveled by train and neither have they so fun new experience for us all!!:D
