What will I do now?

Oh dear, just telephoned Virgin to book our flights for next Aug, they have told me all M+M and companion flights have GONE!! They want £2217.00 for the 3 of us! I decided to DIY this trip because everyone says they save money doing it this way, but now we will end up paying MORE than if we had booked whole thing through Virgin Holidays! Help, what can I do?

The companion seats must have been snapped up as soon as bookings opened. Gatwick has been wiped out in PE and EC for Aug and MAN only has a limited choice of dates for PE. Miles plus money must have been loaded and sold out as well as there is still a limited amount of PE fares showing but only from MAN.

What's really annoying is that when I phoned on Sat which was the date the flights were released, the woman on the phone told me M+M weren't released until today!

Try BA instead of VA - I believe that they have an extra flight going out next year so may have more capacity and keener pricing.

Hey, we were gonna go Virgin but are now going BA. It might be a tiny bit more expensive, but we're doing it as theres a LOT more baggage allowance!

Just a bit!! I was really upset, especially because we had a really good deal with the hotel and I thought we would get good flight prices going on what other people have said. Just have to wait now, if they don't get any cheaper we will have to cancel because we just can't afford that.:(

We went his year August 25 until 8th September with Virgin. It cost me about £1,680 with miles plus money for four of us but I didn't book the flights until April. When we went the year before we booked them in the January and it cost £1,880 without miles plus money. I am sure that in January a new lot of deals come out. I don't know when your going in August but I know that the flight price drops 23/24 August.

I had the same problem earlier this year booking my M&M seats for May next year. I was told that there would be no further M&M seats for the dates I wanted and so I was convinced by the advisor to book dates that didn't suit so well.

Low and behold a month or so later the exact flights I wanted were released and it cost me £200 to change our 4 seats. What particularly annoyed me was when i was told i was being charged a 'PENALTY charge' for changing the seats! I was only changing them as i was assured that the dates I really wanted would not come up. And don't get me started on the fact that they wouldn't accept my vouchers from last year for paying the extra fuel tax in advance.

Perhaps you'll get better deals later? Will you loose the same on the hotel regardless of when you cancel. If so just keep trying. We booked flights a couple of weeks ago for NYE staying for a fortnight and we only paid £952 for 3 of us plus an infant (standard fare) - you've just gotta catch it at the right time I guess.
