Hi everyone

I'm from the UK and totally new to forums and getting married! I'm not too sure where to start. We have now booked our holiday to florida for next year 2008 and are awaiting confirmation from virgin of our disney wedding day (hopefully early June 08).

We booked the premium intimate wedding package with virgin. I can only find bad reviews. Does anyone out there have any good experiences? I'm starting to worry.

Any hints, tips or info would be greatly appreciated. We are getting married at the disney wedding pavillion and then reception at grand floridian. We have also booked our 5 night stay at Disney Carribean Beach.

We are lucky to have family and some friends coming too and are planning to have the wedding at the end of the first week of our holiday, with then a further weeks holiday after. Kinda wedding, holiday, honeymoon all in one.

My head is spinning with loads of questions, not really sure where to begin. Thought I would just introduce myself and put a plee out Help!

Hi dancer and welcome to the UOG. Congratulations on your wedding :D

We have a few members here who have married at Disney, our very own Joanne and Kiltedwarrior married at the Wedding Pavillion last year, they also had their reception at the Grand Floridian. WOW is the only way I can describe it, it really was a fairytale wedding.

I'm sure Jo will be able to help with any questions you have.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

The wedding pavilion is just beautiful, have you visited there before?

I think Bec booked her wedding through Virgin, although she's away at the moment, but she had a good experience :)

The intimate wedding receptions are held on Commanders Terrace at the Grand Floridian which is lovely and has a great view.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have and we'll do out best to answer them :)

Still trying to get to grips with the forum and looking after my 3 month old and my 18 month old, plus plan the wedding.

Does anyone know of any suit hire shops in and around disney. We have a villa for 2 weeks aswell as transport but dont want to spend too long looking. I'm thinking linen trousers and crisp white shirts for the guys to either hire or buy.

I havent got my dress yet as I'm hoping to loose a few pounds after the pregnancy but I have started looking.

So far we have 7 adults and 6 kiddies definately for guests. I'm attempting to get a list of questions together till then motherhood beckons :)

Hi dancer! Congratulations on your wedding!
we got married in 2005 at the walt disney world swan hotel, which i booked through virgin. everything was perfect, no problems at all and was a really wonderful day! the co-ordinator in orlando was really good, she went through every single detail, gave you the option of upgrading packages etc if you wished to and just checked the details or the form which you will soon get and confirmed that you still wanted the same things. she shows you the photography packages etc and will give you more details on other things which im really sorry i cant remember now! we had a really good experience of virgin - as did Bec who got married through virgin at the pavillion.
The only bad thing i will say about virgin is their lack of correspondance and knowledge in the uk. they dont seem to know (or didnt when we had our wedding) exactly what was available etc in orlando, every question i asked was usually greeted with the response that the co-ordinator in florida will help me. i drove myself mad thinking about the cake, flowers etc, but found that i got the majority of my answers on this wonderful board!
so all in all, virgin were good for us - if you do have any questions you will almost always get the answer you are looking for on her!

Congratulations once again!

Dont worry. I had the premuim intimate wedding package with Virgin and had the most perfect day. The only negative is, I agree with Kate the Virgin staff this side are pretty clueless:rolleyes: However the staff in resort more than make up for it.

Any hints, tips or info would be greatly appreciated. We are getting married at the disney wedding pavillion and then reception at grand floridian. We have also booked our 5 night stay at Disney Carribean Beach.

Sounds great! As Joanne said the cake and champagne reception takes place on Commanders Terrace at the GF. You will need to book dinner reservations in advance if you want to add a meal to your day.

Let me know about that and maybe I can give you an idea of some places.

We are lucky to have family and some friends coming too and are planning to have the wedding at the end of the first week of our holiday, with then a further weeks holiday after. Kinda wedding, holiday, honeymoon all in one.

We got married on the 6th day of a 14 day vacation - worked out perfectly.

Please ask away with any questions. Im more than happy to help. If it helps things to consider are even with an intimate wedding are:

flowers
transport
photography
videography
Cake flavours
Music
Dinner reservations

In the meantime you can see our intimate premuim wedding in photographs here (http://community.webshots.com/user/garyandbec) to give you an idea of how it all comes together. I should tell you though we paid extra for photography, videography and we had the MK photo shoot.

Look forward to helping you out.:)

Just seen your wedding pics. WOW they are stunning. Thanx so much for enabling me to see them. Im now even more excited than before.

Ive just received confirmation docs from virgin and the wedding pack. So will read thro. No doubt then I will start going crazy with questions! The wedding is at 10am so Im thinking about wot to do with the rest of the day. Maybe breakfast/lunch out and then getting caterers in to the villa we have rented for that evening. Any suggestions/ideas?

Thank you very much and you're welcome.

The wedding is at 10am so Im thinking about wot to do with the rest of the day. Maybe breakfast/lunch out and then getting caterers in to the villa we have rented for that evening. Any suggestions/ideas?

Our wedding was at 2pm we had the cake and champagne reception about 3:15pm and booked an early dinner for 5pm.We ate at the Chef's domaine in Citrico's which was perfect but limited to 12 people.

Lunch in th GF would be an option but Im not sure about opening times at the different restaurants, have a look around the dining section on the main site to give you an idea.

Remember if you want to keep your wedding dress on you'll have to eat at the resort restaurants as you are not allowed to wear wedding attire in the parks apart from the dessert parties etc.

We had a party at our villa but not the wedding day we had it the day we came back from POR. That was a great way of talking about the day. I even had some of the photos back by then!

I found choosing the flowers and the cake the hardest thing! I had absolutely no idea what was available in the US, but when i spoke to virgin all they said was just choose what you would like? I said but id like to know what is available so that i can choose - which i didnt think was an unreasonable request! In the end i chose ivory roses with a lilac filler - i cant remember which one i specified now, but when i was in resort they told me that they would match the flower as best they could to my request and it would depend on what was in season. The flowers were beautiful though and i wasnt at all disappointed. as for the cake, i found out the the cake flavours that disney offered and went with one of them - the cake was also beautiful and very yummy too!
The answers to your questions are out there its just a shame that virgin in the uk dont have them to help you!

Initially I had picked red roses when I had the planning pack from Virgin. I thought it was the safest bet as I wanted a block colour. The only thing was I didnt really want a colour as such:( .
My reception at home was all white.:D

So when I went for a plannng meeting with my coordinator 3 months before (you dont have to do this) I asked about it and she said they have a very pale pink almost nude colour rose  and so I went for it and I was delighted with the result.

As for the cake - I let DH decide on that, he chose marble cake and chocolate mousse - it was delicious.:eat:

Wanted to say a great big thank you, everyone has been so welcoming and helpful. I hope I can help in return.

I now have questions popping into my head every 5 seconds and so do my wedding guests.

So here are a few.

1. Can confetti be used at the wedding pavillion?

2. Is parking available at the Grand Floridian? Is it time restricted?

3. Limo hire states 6 hours on virgin paperwork and 4 hours on disney:confused:

4. Can the guests use the limo?

5. Is it better to book wedding extras with disney or virgin? Also was thinking of a character lunch inside magic kingdom who is it best to book with?

6. As wedding attire cannot be worn in the parks I was thinking of getting tee-shirts printed with bride, groom, fob etc Has anyone else done this or any other ideas?

7. Bec gave me a great idea of having a party on a separate day to the wedding. Does anyone know of caterers that would come and cook at the villa we are renting?

8. Is the magic kingdom photo shoot always the day after the wedding?

9. Are there any changing facilities at the GF?

I have plenty more but that will do for now. All you guys will soon be fed up with me asking all these questions

Hi Dancer- I can't help with too many questions because I am in the US and did not have a Virgin wedding but I can tell you about my flowers and cake. Oh, and a friend of mine made us t-shirts to wear in the parks that had a Bride Minnie and Groom Mickey and said Disney Wedding and the date and our names. She had them made at disney shopping online. Let's just say I wore mine all day but DH only lasted about 1 hour max!

For my flowers i sent a picture and they copied them almost exactly. I had a fall (October) wedding and my girls wore chocolate brown dresses so i choose a bouquet of fall colors. Please look at my pics online to see the flowers. OMG they were great and they lasted the whole week we were there. They made our room smell soooo good!

For our cake we chose marble with boston creme filling. Actually I think we had 2 different layers and one had marble with a liquer flavor. I'll have to look back through my reports  I ate cake all week. It was the best! I gave pictures for the cake too. Everything was wonderful.

1. Can confetti be used at the wedding pavillion?

Yes, but only natural stuff like dried rose petals. You can't use the paper stuff.

2. Is parking available at the Grand Floridian? Is it time restricted?

There is parking at the GF, and if you tell them you're attending a wedding (or rather your guests tell them) they shouldn't be time restricted
There's also non-gated parking at the Wedding Pavilion.

4. Can the guests use the limo?

AFAIK, it's yours to do whatever you want with and have whoever you want ride in it :)

5. Is it better to book wedding extras with disney or virgin? Also was thinking of a character lunch inside magic kingdom who is it best to book with?

You'll need to book things like dining direct with Disney (Disney dining, not wedding planners), preferably 180 days in advance.

6. As wedding attire cannot be worn in the parks I was thinking of getting tee-shirts printed with bride, groom, fob etc Has anyone else done this or any other ideas?

Yep, we did this last year  You can also get a free badge from guest services that says you're on your honeymoon.

8. Is the magic kingdom photo shoot always the day after the wedding?

No, you have have it whenever you like, subject to availability. Once a Disney bride, always a Disney bride, so you can actually have it on a future trip if you wanted :hehe: We had ours about a week after the wedding, which was perfect as it meant we didn't have to get up early the day after the wedding.

9. Are there any changing facilities at the GF?

Only the restrooms :( They did used to allow you to use one of the conference rooms if empty, but as of last year they started charging about $500 to do so

Thanks for all the help. I was thinking it might be a struggle getting up so early the day after the wedding and the magic kingdom shoot looks a must. I will have to get organised and get booking extras.

Did you upgrade your photo package?

hi all

Has anyone attempted to get the wedding lic online?
Is it a good idea and easy to do?

Ive picked colours/style for my flowers pink and pale pink roses and i think ive found the dress or at least the style i want. I have found an online shop but im a little hesitant to buy my dress on the net think i need to try on a few styles first to check wot suits me.

im hoping for lots of sparkles perhaps diamonte or crystals and my bridesmaid dresses will be pale pink

I like the idea of my younger bridesmaid having a wand instead of flowers. Anyone know where I could find one?

Hi Dancer,
First, many congrats on your wedding! I'm sure it'll be lovely.
We opted to book our package direct with Disney but I'm sure you'll be fine with virgin- remember people are far more likely to write a review when they want to complain than they are to praise people! (Says a bit about human nature doesn't it?)
Re cake, we had the intimate package and threfore limited choice through Disney, but I've opted for choc cakewith white choc filling, I just hope it doesn't melt! Re the limo, we've booked our to ferry round us, best man and both sets of parents at various points, so you'll be OK.
Def book meals in advance, as far as possible- character ones go really fast. We managedto get Cinderellas table for ours for a late lunch- I'm soooo excited about that. We're having a fireworks cruise to round the day off as well.
I like the idea of the t-shirts, may have to suggest this to the other half... :)
Re wedding extras, I think they can be requested through virgin and then done with Disney, but if you can talk direct to a Dsiney coordinator you might want to do it with them. We've got Cinderellas coach and Mickey and minnie coming which should be great.
All in all, enjoy it. Disney wil lbend over backwards to help you! And I'm sure Virgin will too.

Congratulations :)

We used Carollyn Allen for dress steaming and also the guys suits as we didn't want to buy and take out with us. They are a fantastic company, my hubby's suit didn't fit him first time around so they went off and the next morning the perfect fitted one was delivered.
