FH and I have decided to go to Disney for our honeymoon for a couple of reasons. We are paying for it ourselves as well as our photographer, dj and flowers and were worried that a place like Europe would be out of the question. Also we both love DW and have never been there together so we thought it would be a great place to start out as a married couple. We aren't going until October 2009 but I'm a big planner and I'm excited so I'm trying to pick a hotel to stay at so we can have a total amount we might spend. I'm having trouble picking one though. We would love to stay at a deluxe resort but can't decide on which one. Also I kind of feel like we will hardly be in the room should we stay at a moderate or value resort instead to save money and then splurge on some really nice dinners. Where is everyone staying for their honeymoons and do you have any suggestions for me. Also is anyone using the DDP? We were originally going to DW this April but cancelled when we got engaged. We were going to use the DDP but now I don't know if it's worth it since they have made some changes. Any opinions on that? Thanks!

We've never really had a honeymoon. However, with WDW as the goal, my opinion would be to opt for a nice moderate (POR or POFQ, though I personally feel that POR is the more romantic if you get the mansions) and then splurge on some nice dinners.

If you choose a "fancier" resort, you can make a day (or two!) of your honeymoon just staying at the resort to enjoy all the amenities.

I think POR is lovely too, although I've only had family stay there; never myself.

Much will depend upon what you like best. My favorite deluxe is the Beach Club. I love the staff there, the restaurants, Martha's Vineyard, the pool, the quiet pools too, the proximity to EPCOT and the Studios...

Planning is a good thing! It's never too early to be planning your holiday (or honeymoon)!

I think it depends on what you want to do. If you like lying round the pool for example and want a peaceful resort, i'd go for the GF. The rooms have just been renovated and are very nice. I would imagine AKL would be nice for a honeymoon, it seems cosy and never too busy.

My fave is the Poly, especially at night when all the torches are lit, it's very romantic and the rooms are huge, but in the daytime the pool can get busy and there are lots of kids.

It depends what your plans are. If you will be on the go most days try to stay at a Moderate resort. If you like to relax and be by the pool/spa, go for the Deluxe resort. Or, why not split your stay?! :)
I do love the BC/YC area but I really feel out on "display" at the pool right on the pathway. I would stay at the BW on my disneymoon if you want to stay in that area.
I do love the WL! So romantic and beautiful there!

I would do the DDP if you think you'll want to do some nicer dinners. Even with the "new" plan you can still get a nice dinner at Cali Grill or Artist Point for 2 ts credits. That really is such a bargain.
Have fun planning!

Everyone else seems to have added their thoughts but here goes mine. We went on honeymoon back in March 2005. We considered staying a deluxe resort, specifically AKL but felot that for the money and knowing what we wanted to do then it was a little more than we wanted to pay. So..... with that in mind we decided to go for a moderate resort having stayed in the budget resort b4 (All Starts Movies and Music.)

After mush research we focused in on the Port orleans resorts and saw that Port Orleans Riverside was a popular destination for honeymooners. so we went for that. We were not disappointed!!!!! The rooms are gorgeous as is the grounds. The accommodation was well spread about and at no point did we feel it was overcrowded. The grounds of the hotel was gorgeous and the river running through the resort was amazing. You were able to hire boats from the main marina and take them up and down the river. As well as the main pool, which had a great bar, there are also smaller pools allocated to several of the lodges. These were always quiet. I would go for a swim every morning and their was never anyone about and we went peak season as we are both teachers!

Anyway, there were other things included in the resort that made it special such as: I really good restaurant in the main building, A horse drawn carriage ride through the resort and, my favorite, a boat of which took you all the way to Downtown Disney. A lovely, 15-20 cruise that was FREE that was a really nice and different way to get there when going out for dinner. Much better than getting dressed up and getting squashed on a bus.

Because of going to a moderate resort it gave us the money to do alot of extra things including:

Paying extra for more legroom in plane
VIP room at the airport there and back
Champagne and chocolates on the plane
Flowers in the hotel room on arrival
Dinner at Portobello Yacht Club, Rainforest Cafe, California Grill in the Contemporary, Mama Melrose and others
Hoop De Doo dinner show
Swiming with Dolphins at Discovery Cove
Cirque Du Soliel
And some much more.

So my vote is for Port Orleans Riverside. If you wanjt to know any more about anything WDW then just ask

Thanks I have actually always look at PO but I have always been drawn to FQ. I'll have to check out the Riverside.
