Can you help?
My Mother has recieved her renewed passport and it is a biometric passport. Do she now have to apply for a visa to travel to the USA or can she still travel on the Visa Waiver program?

I just checked the US Embassy website, and if the passport hold the chip able to carry biometric details, you are still able to travel under the VWP.

Hope this helps.

Both my childrens passports have the chip in them and they were fine on the VWP. :)

If they stop you travelling on the old style passport and they haven't as yet you would here about it. Too be honest they only started issuing US biometric docs last year so not all there nationals travel on them.

Welshjim, you also need to realize that the majority of US citizens do not have passports. I don't have one (yet, I do have the application filled out and ready to go)

I am aware of the situation, without going into details i have some knowledge on the subject from my job. I simply meant they are allowing the replacent of existing docs to happen naturally as the old passports expire. In some countrys they have introduced biometric passports and completely phased out previous documents by simply saying as of January 1st they are no longer acceptable. The expiry date printed in these old docs could still have some way to go. I have even seen passports issued for 50 years.
