hello everyone,
i was wondering you anyone can help.
i will be in WDW for only 1 day, and i wanted to visit both fantasy land and downtown disney for some shopping and dining.
i do not drive, and i cannot find any bus routes online. how can i get from magical kingdom to downtown disney?
also, are there taxis within the disney resort?

You can take the bus, monorail, ferry or walk to the Contemporary and get a bus from there to Downtown Disney. We always walk from the MK to the Contemporary. My granddaughter has been doing it since she was 3 and doesn't like going to the Contemporary any other way.

By Fantasyland, I'll assume you mean Magic Kingdom. You have a couple options - walk to the Contemp and bus from there. Monorail to TTC, and bus from there, boat or monorail to the Poly or GF and bus from there.
You can also bus to Saratoga Springs and walk to DTD from there

could you please tell me where the contemporary is? also, i cannot understand the monorail by looking at this loop http://world.nycsubway.org/us/disney/disneymap.html
i thought that the TTC was right by the entrance to MK? is it walking distance or should i take the monorail?
i'm also unclear as to where the monorail stops? if i'm in Fantasyland ( MK ) where is the closest monorail stop
are buses specific with name and route #? also, how long can i anticipate the bus ride to be from TTC to DTD
thank you for all your such knowledgeable help

The monorail does not go into MK. It brings you just outside the gates. But you'll need to take a monorail, or bus to the TTC to get the monorail (or ferry) into MK.
How long between the two on a bus? Maybe fifteen minutes?
Buses have an electronic sign both over the front window and to the left of the door that tells you where they are going.

The TTC is on the other side of a large body of water from MK. You can either take a Ferry or the Monorail to get to MK from the TTC

I don't mean to try to change your mind, but there is so much to see in Magic Kingdom & there are shops all along main street & through-out MK, that honestly you can get all your fun & shopping in one place. If you really only have one day I would just take in all the MK has to offer! Downtown Disney is lovely, great dining & legoland playground for kiddies...but Magic Kingdom is the ultimate. I would also check on Disney World's website as to what are the operating hours for MK on the day you are visiting. I hope you have a great time during your visit!

Wait time is not something that you can predict. You may end up with no wait at all, or have to wait for the next bus, ferry or monorail. All depends on your arrival time at the transport area. Luck mostly.

Monorails are pretty quick coming however, far more than buses

Question. Was there ever a time when you could catch a bus from one of the four main parks to DTD? And do they have busses now from park to park or do you always have to do the switcheroo thingy to get from say MK to AK? Yeah, with all the visits i've had you would think i would know this but honestly we hardly ever do the park hopping thing.

Once upon a time you could but they stopped the direct buses because people were parking at DTD (free) and taking a bus to the parks

Yes; you can catch a bus to any resort, park or downtown Disney from any other resort, park or dtd.

That is not true. There are not direct buses from DTD to the 4 main parks

Try using this transportation wizard:
It shows you how long on average each trip is, as well as how to get from point a to point b within WDW.

The main site has a good resource of how to get where you're going here (http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/transport.html)
