I'm having a bit of a freak out about the parking lots at disney. I went on google earth last night and could not BELIEVE the size of the parking lots - especially at MK!! How the heck does one find their car, in the dark, particularlly when it's a rental, so it won't look at all familar to you, but it will look like every other rental car in the lot? Any tips or tricks that you experienced travellers would share?

You could put a colored ribbon on the antenna before leaving your car. You might also tie or hang something from the rearveiw mirror that will help you make sure it's your car.

I sent a text to myself with the character and row number

Also write down the name of your parking area and the row number, it's easy to forget when you have been in the park all day

Along the same lines....we use the dictation option on our mobiles to say the character and row number or, sometimes we take a photo with our phones of the character/row etc.
You could of course just take a pen and jot it down on a scrap of paper.
The trams alway let you know which stop you are at too so it's not as if you just get off anywhere and take pot luck.:)

Once I've managed to remember the row I just keep pressing the lock button on the key remote. It beeps when it finds your car. We did have a major problem in Seaworld once when we lost the car, there were 4 of us and not one had looked at the row number! We found it eventually!

Along the lines of what the others have said, take picture with a phone or digital camera, of the row/character. I love the tying a ribbon on the antenna. I do that with our luggage for the airport. :D

Yep remember the row and the character, and then if all else fails, start pressing the key remote as you wander up and down the rows (split the family between rows).

One of my teachers told me that Disney keeps track of what times they park cars in certain rows. So if all else fails, ask a CM.

DH walks round doing a Jeremy Clarkson - keys to his head pressing the remote button (you can get the car to open whilst being further away).
DS and DD have the job of remembering the character and row number.

We note down the lot and row number on our Mobile/Cell phones and have a ribbon tied onto the rear view mirror.
We also have a South Park sun visor thing, which is a bit rude.........................but we never lose the car.:D

Lost the car one year and as we were looking for it , lost the 15 year old, when we found the car, before we found her, she was some mad.

We didn`t actually "lose" our car but somehow managed to lock the keys in with the engine running at Seaworld a while back!
I went back to Guest Services and a guy came out with me in his truck. On the way back to our car he told me that the most call outs they get is from folks who cannot find their car on leaving the park, and on these occasions they take the guests on a grand tour of the parking lot until they find their vehicle!

Funny enough I always hope for a white rental car in FL as a contrast [the one I usually drive over here is black!], yet it`s been ages since I have been assigned a white car!

All the Dodge Caravans were Red and mean all of them.

Believe it or not, I'd be greatful for a white car (vs. black) here. In the summer heat, the black just makes getting in the car far worse!

OK, got to be me then, they see me coming and say old lady from the north, she needs a white car, I have rented several times at the airport and always gotten white, even this time at Enterprise, which I would not do again, as we almost missed our flight. Maybe the size of the car?? I always get a small or med. size, as there are never more than 4 of us.

Its a must to write down or use your mobile to make a note of the Character Area you are in and the row number. Otherwise you get off the little bus and start having a domestic with Husband and Children along the lines of " We are parked in Goofy" "No we are not, we are parked in GRUMPY" and so it goes on..................x
I do believe MK has something like 12000 parking spaces so....happy hunting !!

I use a car flag, just keep it in the car then put it on when you park up. Makes your car very easy to find.

The flag ideas a great one! I found a Canadian car flag for less than a buck, left over from our recent Canada Day festivities! thanks!

Just buy a character aerial topper from any of the disney parks and tell any children in your party where you are parked as they always remember when adults forget.
